The Minute Between 8:01 and 8:03

Earth is finally free of the Tenth Gate's tow rig. Back beside the battered white utility van, Samurai watches his dash clock skip from 8:01 to 8:03. The sun flickers like a scratched record. No one remembers the missing minute.

SAMURAI: My coffee aged two minutes. I only lived one.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

Wide sunrise over Earth, tow-collar drifting away into space; tiny glowing convoy escorts the planet.

AFTER ISSUE 005: EARTH RELEASED. TOW BRAKE LOCKED.

PANEL 2

Dashboard split-panel: digital clock 08:01 becomes 08:03; a plastic hula dancer freezes mid-wiggle.

The Collection Notice

An Archi-Collective time collector descends from the retreating city-hand, its body a walking stack of clock towers. The notice on its chest announces a late fee: one memory for each unpaid minute.

FLANNEL TIGER: I thought we paid the towing bill!

SAMURAI: We paid the towing bill. This is the late fee.

The Water That Remembers

Flannel Tiger's routine hose prank splashes a lattice of water into midair. Each bead replays the same missing second of sunlight. The droplets reveal where the collector has pinned the stolen minute.

FLANNEL TIGER: Time for a rinse!

FLANNEL TIGER: This hose is buffering.

SAMURAI: The missing minute is trapped in a pattern.

The Clock in the Fan

Back at the apartment, the stereo refuses to transform the room into a spaceship: the beat has a one-minute hole. Samurai finds an old server fan ticking in sync with the water lattice and uses it as a timing reference.

SAMURAI: Come on. I just got Earth un-towed.

SAMURAI: We don't need the lost beat. We need its echo.

Maintenance Entrance to Yesterday

The old tow-brake access tunnel is still reachable through a service portal. Samurai drives his white van up a ramp of suspended water and crawls into the collector's clockwork vault.

SAMURAI: Stay between the droplets. They show where time is snagged.

FLANNEL TIGER: I require a bigger yesterday.

AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY. DEFINITELY NOT THESE TWO.

PAGE 06 / 08

Vesper's Light Show

Vesper Voltage, the bioluminescent jellyfish DJ from the Crater, transmits through the convoy's colored lights. The collector's clock is phase-locked to the stolen beat; a counter-rhythm can release it.

SAMURAI: Vesper says the collector keeps time like a terrible DJ.

FLANNEL TIGER: Finally. A professional use for my hobby.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

INCOMING: VESPER VOLTAGE.

The Loudest Silence

Inside the collector's pressurized timing chamber, Samurai uses the sputtering yellow 1950s chainsaw and server fan as two competing rhythms. Flannel Tiger punches the collector's minute hand on the offbeat. The stolen minute bursts free.

FLANNEL TIGER: CONSIDER THIS A CHARGEBACK!

SAMURAI: There. One minute, returned to sender.

The Receipt Has a Footnote

Clocks finally agree, but the collector's receipt shows 59 seconds returned and one second withheld. Far away, the Archi-Collective's city-hand unfolds a calendar made of nine captive worlds.

FLANNEL TIGER: Did we win?

SAMURAI: We got a partial refund. I hate partial refunds.
