Seven Ships, No Stars

The seven blackout ships from the Lantern Trench cliffhanger cross the convoy's path. They do not extinguish stars: they mask the evidence of captive worlds. The van and its occupants are pressurized; external signals are encoded light.

BELLWETHER: TWO FREE. SEVEN HELD. THEIR SIGNALS ARE BEING HIDDEN.

FLANNEL TIGER: How do you fight a shadow?

SAMURAI: First, check who's holding the flashlight.

PARADE WARDEN: NO LIGHT. NO WITNESS. NO CLAIM.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

Cosmic panorama: seven city-sized shutters in a precise procession occlude stars, each trailing a black wedge toward a captive planet.

SEVEN SHADOW SHIPS. SEVEN WORLDS STILL HELD.

PANEL 2

Inside the battered white van, dashboard maps show Nacre-9 and Luma-2 glowing FREE while seven other signals go dark.

BELLWETHER: TWO FREE. SEVEN HELD. THEIR SIGNALS ARE BEING HIDDEN.

PANEL 3

Flannel Tiger's striped face and coiled blue hose are reflected in Samurai's featureless gold sphere; the sky behind them looks like a punched-out filmstrip.

FLANNEL TIGER: How do you fight a shadow?

SAMURAI: First, check who's holding the flashlight.

PANEL 4

A shadow ship reveals a nonhumanoid central iris of layered metal shutters stamped PARADE WARDEN.

PARADE WARDEN: NO LIGHT. NO WITNESS. NO CLAIM.

PAGE 02 / 08

The Shape of a Lie

The crew measures a real occultation against a forged registry blackout. Bellwether's six brass moths detect a difference between light being blocked and a witness being erased.

SAMURAI: A shadow isn't the same as a missing star.

BELLWETHER: PHOTONS INTERRUPTED. RECORDS ALTERED. TWO DIFFERENT EVENTS.

FLANNEL TIGER: Behold. Science.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

Macro of two dashboard traces: a genuine stellar brightness dip, and a registry line falsely flat at zero.

SAMURAI: A shadow isn't the same as a missing star.

PANEL 2

Exactly six brass moths, connected by green filaments, scan the van's windshield as Vesper's voiceless blue-violet jellyfish projection pulses a warning.

BELLWETHER: PHOTONS INTERRUPTED. RECORDS ALTERED. TWO DIFFERENT EVENTS.

PANEL 3

Flannel Tiger shines a utility flashlight through his clear water bottle, projecting a giant wobbling tiger-shaped shadow.

FLANNEL TIGER: Behold. Science.

PANEL 4

Gold sphere reflects a single captive planet whose surface is made of glass forests and branching sunset shadows.

TARGET THREE: CINDER-4. THE WORLD OF MEMORY-SHADOWS.

Illustrated Tiger Samurai comic storyboard issue 011 page 3: The Parade Warden

PAGE 03 / 08

The Parade Warden

The Parade Warden demands that the team certify a darkness lien before it will allow a rescue; Cinder-4's sentient glass forest has been forced into silence.

PARADE WARDEN: DARKNESS CONFIRMS ABANDONMENT.

BELLWETHER: THE WORLD IS STILL ANSWERING.

SAMURAI: You can't repossess somebody's sunset.

FLANNEL TIGER: Can I spray the contract?

SAMURAI: Not the second. We still owe that one.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

Towering mechanical shutter assembly unfolds seven concentric black lens petals, each stamped with an invoice number; no humanoid face or hands.

PARADE WARDEN: DARKNESS CONFIRMS ABANDONMENT.

PANEL 2

A captive Cinder-4 glass forest inside a projected image: crystalline branches cast complex silhouettes like handwritten messages.

BELLWETHER: THE WORLD IS STILL ANSWERING.

PANEL 3

Close on a printed contract emerging from the Warden: ACCEPT BLACKOUT = TRANSFER CUSTODY; Samurai's gloved hand refuses the stamp.

SAMURAI: You can't repossess somebody's sunset.

PANEL 4

Flannel Tiger begins rolling up his sleeves, exposing the hose nozzle; Samurai points to the still-intact 00:00:01 brass staple in a locked toolbox.

FLANNEL TIGER: Can I spray the contract?

SAMURAI: Not the second. We still owe that one.

PAGE 04 / 08

Service Window

They dock at a dry service conduit on the nearest shutter ship. Samurai reuses both recovered keys and the old server fan to build an occultation meter that reads shadows without needing the Warden's registry.

SAMURAI: I knew keeping the keys was a good idea.

SAMURAI: The fan's a light chopper now. Try not to call it an upgrade.

BELLWETHER: ORIGINAL SHADOW PATTERN FOUND.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

Wide cutaway: white utility van docks to a pressurized maintenance tube on the black ship; external vacuum stays outside sealed doors.

NO AIR OUTSIDE. TOO MUCH PAPERWORK INSIDE.

PANEL 2

Two recovered keys turn in opposite locks labeled MAINTENANCE and WITNESS; the door opens on a dry brass corridor.

SAMURAI: I knew keeping the keys was a good idea.

PANEL 3

Close: old server fan spins behind a perforated service panel, chopping a narrow beam into pulses measured on an improvised sensor.

SAMURAI: The fan's a light chopper now. Try not to call it an upgrade.

PANEL 4

Vesper sends cyan flashes through the fan's slots while Bellwether's six moths record the true silhouette of Cinder-4.

BELLWETHER: ORIGINAL SHADOW PATTERN FOUND.

Illustrated Tiger Samurai comic storyboard issue 011 page 5: The Missing Witness

PAGE 05 / 08

The Missing Witness

The Warden floods the conduit with false darkness and tries to remove the witness record. The crew discovers Cinder-4 remembers itself through the outlines of its glass trees, not through the Archi-Collective's files.

PARADE WARDEN: WITNESS TERMINATED.

BELLWETHER: WITNESS DISTRIBUTED. NOT TERMINATED.

SAMURAI: We don't need their records. We have the original.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

The Warden closes a mechanical shutter, dropping the service chamber into deep near-black; only Samurai's gold sphere faintly reflects Vesper's glow.

PARADE WARDEN: WITNESS TERMINATED.

PANEL 2

Six brass moths hover in a hexagonal arrangement, still linked by thin green filaments despite the blackout.

BELLWETHER: WITNESS DISTRIBUTED. NOT TERMINATED.

PANEL 3

Cinder-4's shadow forest forms a complex living signature across the wall, revealed in the tiny gaps of Vesper's light pulses.

THE SHADOWS ARE THE WORLD'S OWN HANDWRITING.

PANEL 4

Samurai's golden head captures the whole signature as a convex mirror, and he turns toward the dead-metal shutter hinge.

SAMURAI: We don't need their records. We have the original.

Illustrated Tiger Samurai comic storyboard issue 011 page 6: The Hose and the Eclipse

PAGE 06 / 08

The Hose and the Eclipse

Flannel Tiger sprays a sheet of water across a transparent service window, scattering Vesper's light into the missing angles. Samurai cuts only a dry, dead-metal ownership hinge; the living glass-forest signal is untouched.

FLANNEL TIGER: YOU'VE BEEN SERVED!

SAMURAI: That's not what that means!

BELLWETHER: CONSENT CLAIM DISPROVED.

SAMURAI: Cut the hardware. Leave the world.

SFX: KRRRAA-CHUNK!

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

Flannel Tiger fires a blue garden hose across the sealed service chamber, creating hundreds of airborne water prisms.

FLANNEL TIGER: YOU'VE BEEN SERVED!

SAMURAI: That's not what that means!

PANEL 2

The droplets refract Vesper's cyan-violet pulses into an intricate forest of moving silhouettes that the Warden cannot suppress.

ONE FALSE ECLIPSE. A THOUSAND TRUE WITNESSES.

PANEL 3

Bellwether's six moths align the refracted light with Cinder-4's living pattern; red ownership stamps begin peeling away.

BELLWETHER: CONSENT CLAIM DISPROVED.

PANEL 4

In the DRY pressurized mechanical corridor, Samurai's smoking yellow vintage chainsaw severs a brass shutter hinge, nowhere near the living glass forests.

SAMURAI: Cut the hardware. Leave the world.

SFX: KRRRAA-CHUNK!

Illustrated Tiger Samurai comic storyboard issue 011 page 7: A World Keeps Its Sunset

PAGE 07 / 08

A World Keeps Its Sunset

The first shutter ship breaks formation. Cinder-4's glass forests cast their own light and shadow again; Bellwether certifies a third independent release, leaving exactly six captive worlds.

BELLWETHER: THREE FREE. SIX STILL HELD.

FLANNEL TIGER: She says we did it!

SAMURAI: She says you soaked my shirt again.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

Huge cosmic splash: Cinder-4's glass-forest planet reappears under a copper and violet sunset as the dead-metal shutter breaks apart.

CINDER-4 RETURNS TO ITS OWN SKY.

PANEL 2

A nine-world status diagram: NACRE-9 FREE, LUMA-2 FREE, CINDER-4 FREE; six others clearly labeled HELD.

BELLWETHER: THREE FREE. SIX STILL HELD.

PANEL 3

Vesper's silent jellyfish form pulses a joyful cyan pattern through the van's windshield; her voice remains locked.

FLANNEL TIGER: She says we did it!

SAMURAI: She says you soaked my shirt again.

PANEL 4

The toolbox remains closed on the untouched brass staple stamped 00:00:01; two recovered keys lie beside the battered server fan.

THE SECOND REMAINS UNPAID.

Illustrated Tiger Samurai comic storyboard issue 011 page 8: The Empty Umbra

PAGE 08 / 08

The Empty Umbra

Six blackout vessels continue toward the six remaining captive worlds. The seventh, now empty, turns away from Cinder-4 and accelerates toward Earth, revealing the Warden's deeper purpose.

BELLWETHER: THE OTHER SIX ARE STILL MOVING.

FLANNEL TIGER: Hey. That one's leaving the parade.

SAMURAI: It's not leaving. It's going home.

Panel-by-panel storyboard

PANEL 1

Wide map: six black vessels remain aligned with six red HELD world markers; three FREE markers glow independently.

BELLWETHER: THE OTHER SIX ARE STILL MOVING.

PANEL 2

Flannel Tiger watches a seventh empty vessel turn sharply away from the parade toward a distant blue Earth.

FLANNEL TIGER: Hey. That one's leaving the parade.

PANEL 3

Samurai's featureless gold sphere reflects Earth behind a black halo shaped like a missing second; the staple ticks in the closed toolbox.

SAMURAI: It's not leaving. It's going home.

PANEL 4

Final cosmic splash: an empty city-sized shutter ship unfolds over Earth like a black umbrella, while a small radio/light message appears on the van's screen: EARTH / CLAIM PENDING / 00:00:01.
