The Umbrella Over Earth
The empty seventh shutter ship from Issue 011 arrives over Earth. Its silence is administrative, not physical. The van follows it to a municipal service port.
FLANNEL TIGER: It followed us home. Like a stray parking garage.
BELLWETHER: SHIP EMPTY. CLAIM ACTIVE. WITNESS COUNT: ZERO.
SAMURAI: Then we need to meet whoever counted.
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
Cosmic splash: a city-sized black umbrella ship eclipses the city lights, while Earth glows faintly green at its rim.
EARTH / CLAIM PENDING / 00:00:01.
PANEL 2
Inside the pressurized white van, Samurai's smooth gold sphere reflects the umbrella and a blinking maintenance map.
FLANNEL TIGER: It followed us home. Like a stray parking garage.
PANEL 3
Six linked brass moths project a registry warning; voiceless Vesper flashes three sharp cyan pulses.
BELLWETHER: SHIP EMPTY. CLAIM ACTIVE. WITNESS COUNT: ZERO.
PANEL 4
Samurai turns off his coffee maker, clips on a service badge and points the van toward a sealed docking collar.
SAMURAI: Then we need to meet whoever counted.

The City Nobody Saw
Under the umbrella, streetlights still work but the registry stops acknowledging the people beneath them. The threat is erasure from a false database, not literal invisibility.
CLEANER: I'm standing right here!
FLANNEL TIGER: I can wash that off.
SAMURAI: First figure out where it prints from.
BELLWETHER: THE CLAIM RUNS THROUGH THE CITY'S SERVICE NETWORK.
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
Night-shift cleaner scrubs a subway entrance; a floating receipt stamp labels the busy street VACANT.
CLEANER: I'm standing right here!
PANEL 2
A bus driver and street-food vendor wave under bright lamps; a holographic census counter remains at zero.
THE LIGHTS ARE ON. THE LEDGER SAYS NOBODY'S HOME.
PANEL 3
Flannel Tiger aims his hose at the hovering stamp; Samurai blocks the nozzle with a flip-flop.
FLANNEL TIGER: I can wash that off.
SAMURAI: First figure out where it prints from.
PANEL 4
An invoice spool extends from the ship's underbelly, connected to an old basement fiber junction.
BELLWETHER: THE CLAIM RUNS THROUGH THE CITY'S SERVICE NETWORK.

A Desk With No Clerk
In a sealed service conduit, they meet the Null Registrar, a self-running absence that treats one unrecorded second as proof that Earth was abandoned.
SAMURAI: Same keys. Worse landlord.
NULL REGISTRAR: ONE SECOND UNOBSERVED. PLANET UNCLAIMED.
FLANNEL TIGER: We still owe that second.
SAMURAI: And I'm not paying a forged bill.
NULL REGISTRAR: SETTLE THE SECOND. RESTORE HER VOICE.
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
The van locks to a pressurized conduit; both recovered keys open separate MAINTENANCE and WITNESS locks.
SAMURAI: Same keys. Worse landlord.
PANEL 2
A vacant brass swivel chair floats inside a ring of self-inking stamps and black shutter petals; no humanoid figure appears.
NULL REGISTRAR: ONE SECOND UNOBSERVED. PLANET UNCLAIMED.
PANEL 3
Close on the locked toolbox: the brass staple reads 00:00:01, untouched and ticking.
FLANNEL TIGER: We still owe that second.
SAMURAI: And I'm not paying a forged bill.
PANEL 4
Vesper pulses a bright cyan NO; the Registrar offers a glowing VOICE RESTORATION voucher.
NULL REGISTRAR: SETTLE THE SECOND. RESTORE HER VOICE.

The Light Nobody Installed
Samurai notices the real atmosphere never becomes perfectly black. Vesper and Bellwether distinguish a faint physical signal from the registry's flatlined zero.
SAMURAI: Funny thing about the night shift. It never clocks out.
BELLWETHER: ATMOSPHERE STILL EMITTING. RECORD IS FALSE.
FLANNEL TIGER: So we send a flashlight back at a giant lie?
SAMURAI: Not a flashlight. A witness list.
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
Close-up: the hero's featureless gold sphere reflects a thin, continuous green-red halo around Earth beyond the ship.
SAMURAI: Funny thing about the night shift. It never clocks out.
PANEL 2
An improvised sensor built from the old server fan records flickering airglow while the registry display remains perfectly zero.
BELLWETHER: ATMOSPHERE STILL EMITTING. RECORD IS FALSE.
PANEL 3
Flannel Tiger holds up a service reflector from the van; Vesper flashes a sequence into its facets.
FLANNEL TIGER: So we send a flashlight back at a giant lie?
PANEL 4
The Null Registrar shuts the maintenance corridor lights; six green-linked moths remain visible.
SAMURAI: Not a flashlight. A witness list.

Please Hold for Witnesses
The rescue becomes collective. Instead of treating people as data points, the crew asks them to opt in as witnesses; the Flannel Tiger's prank becomes a careful signal tool.
CLEANER: Put my name down. I was here.
FLANNEL TIGER: I usually don't ask before spraying.
SAMURAI: Today's a good day to start.
FLANNEL TIGER: Permission to make a very wet point?
CLEANER: Granted.
BELLWETHER: WITNESSES VERIFIED. NOT OWNERSHIP TRANSFERS.
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
A maintenance worker answers an analog radio call; other workers respond from rooftops, diners, tunnels and hospitals.
CLEANER: Put my name down. I was here.
PANEL 2
Flannel Tiger begins a wild hose spray, then pauses as the worker's voice comes through.
FLANNEL TIGER: I usually don't ask before spraying.
SAMURAI: Today's a good day to start.
PANEL 3
With the worker's go-ahead, he sprays water across a sealed skylight; droplets scatter Vesper's cyan flashes toward many reflectors.
FLANNEL TIGER: Permission to make a very wet point?
CLEANER: Granted.
PANEL 4
Six brass moths translate thousands of opt-in light replies into a living mosaic; the zero-witness counter stutters.
BELLWETHER: WITNESSES VERIFIED. NOT OWNERSHIP TRANSFERS.

A Second for Sale
The Registrar tempts Samurai with a shortcut: spend the missing second to restore Vesper's voice and cancel Earth's claim, but doing so would surrender the proof of the original theft.
NULL REGISTRAR: PAYMENT ENDS THE DISPUTE.
BELLWETHER: VESPER SAYS: KEEP THE PROOF.
FLANNEL TIGER: We'll find her voice the long way.
SAMURAI: I cut bad hardware. Not missing time.
SFX: KRRR-CHUNK!
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
A bright voucher marked VOICE FOR ONE SECOND opens before Vesper, whose cyan-violet body flickers with longing.
NULL REGISTRAR: PAYMENT ENDS THE DISPUTE.
PANEL 2
Samurai opens the toolbox without lifting the 00:00:01 staple; Vesper flashes a clear refusal across his mirror head.
BELLWETHER: VESPER SAYS: KEEP THE PROOF.
PANEL 3
Flannel Tiger braces the hose and offers Samurai a steady hand instead of another prank.
FLANNEL TIGER: We'll find her voice the long way.
PANEL 4
In the sealed DRY machine bay, Samurai's smoking yellow chainsaw cuts only a dead-metal receipt-feed coupling, away from workers and live wires.
SAMURAI: I cut bad hardware. Not missing time.
SFX: KRRR-CHUNK!

Every Light Is Somebody
The opt-in witness mosaic and physical light traces invalidate the fabricated zero. The umbrella's false claim fails; the ship loses control without harming Earth's atmosphere or residents.
BELLWETHER: ZERO WITNESSES DISPROVED. CLAIM VOID.
SAMURAI: Tell the building manager we fixed the lights.
FLANNEL TIGER: Six more worlds?
SAMURAI: Overtime's gonna be ridiculous.
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
From orbit, a luminous patchwork of city windows, vehicle lights, lightning and faint atmospheric airglow outlines the Earth.
NO SINGLE LIGHT PROVES A PERSON. TOGETHER, THEY CAN REFUSE A LIE.
PANEL 2
Six moths compare the voluntary witness ledger to the impossible zero; the registrar's self-inking stamps jam.
BELLWETHER: ZERO WITNESSES DISPROVED. CLAIM VOID.
PANEL 3
The black umbrella petals peel apart into harmless dead-metal plates as the three freed worlds appear on the dashboard.
SAMURAI: Tell the building manager we fixed the lights.
PANEL 4
Status map shows NACRE-9, LUMA-2 and CINDER-4 FREE, exactly SIX worlds HELD, Earth SAFE; the staple stays in the locked toolbox.
FLANNEL TIGER: Six more worlds?
SAMURAI: Overtime's gonna be ridiculous.

The City That Forgot Its Name
Earth is safe from repossession, but the ship's cargo was not a person: it was an empty slot in the municipal naming registry. It escapes into the city network and begins deleting place names, teeing up a new mystery.
BELLWETHER: THE SHIP WAS NOT CARRYING A CLERK.
FLANNEL TIGER: Did we always live on... Street?
BELLWETHER: NAMES ERASED. PEOPLE STILL PRESENT.
Panel-by-panel storyboard
PANEL 1
A hollow office chair collapses, leaving a tiny folded blank municipal map caught in a receipt printer.
BELLWETHER: THE SHIP WAS NOT CARRYING A CLERK.
PANEL 2
A street sign outside the van loses its lettering while the street itself remains intact.
FLANNEL TIGER: Did we always live on... Street?
PANEL 3
Vesper flashes a city map; the six moths watch neighborhoods turn into white unlabeled shapes.
BELLWETHER: NAMES ERASED. PEOPLE STILL PRESENT.
PANEL 4
Final wide shot: city skyline at dawn, every sign blank; in the gold sphere's reflection a new route appears: THE CITY THAT FORGOT ITS NAME.
