2026-10-23 15:00 ET — Alt-asset managers after Blackstone's print (BX, KKR + ARES/APO/OWL/CG/TPG context) and Spotify/Netflix day 2
Slot: Fri 2026-10-23, 15:00 ET hourly research. Status: final. §9 adds the whiggity consult (~15:15 ET), checked against its cited links and primary filings.
TRAI data used:
- /api/latest: run
2026-10-22_premarket_2026-10-23T12-53-19-641Z, 8:53 AM ET. Daily stats are from the Oct 22 session. - /api/events: asOf 2026-10-23.
- /api/correlations: 60 sessions to 2026-10-22.
- /api/scorecard: replay 2026-04-23 → 2026-10-21.
- /api/options (asOf 2026-10-22), /api/regime, /api/macro.
All of these returned 200 at ~15:00 ET.
Other data (my pulls and calcs):
- Intraday prices: Yahoo chart API 5-minute bars, last bar 15:12 ET. "%" means vs the Oct 22 close.
- Earnings-date history for out-of-universe peers: Yahoo earnings calendar via the
yfinancelibrary. - Peer-reaction and day-2 statistics: Yahoo daily bars, 2022-06 → 2026-10-22.
1. Focus and why
- Focus 1: the alternative-asset-manager group. BX is today's top long_momentum candidate (+8.38% Oct 22, residualZ 6.19, the highest in the run). KKR (in the universe, residualZ 3.30, no signal) is its closest peer. BLK is in the same TRAI cluster 8. ARES, APO, OWL, CG, TPG and BAM are not in the TRAI universe, but all of them report within the next 11 trading days.
- Focus 2: SPOT (long_momentum, +11.10%, residualZ 4.32) and its only cluster partner NFLX (cluster 29, ρ 0.67).
- Rotation: today's earlier reports covered semis (09:00), software (10:00), telecom/energy (11:00), AI power/industrials (12:00), payments (13:00) and mega-cap cloud (14:00). The 09:00 report logged only BX's and SPOT's headline numbers, and the 13:00 report mentioned BX only as AXP read-through. Neither the alt-manager peer group nor the SPOT/NFLX pair has been covered.
- One-line read:
- BX's Oct 22 move was about half group re-rating, half company-specific. The whole alt-manager group rose +3–6% that day, and today it is giving back −1% to −3%.
- The next shared catalyst is Thu 10-29 BMO, when ARES, OWL and TPG all report. That is the same morning as GDP/PCE, the MA/CAT prints and the GOOGL/MSFT reaction session.
- SPOT's +11% came on a day when semis fell 6%. In 2026, SPOT has behaved as an anti-semis factor name.
- Nothing found this hour changes gap risk on today's candidates. TRAI is flat by 3:55 PM.
2. Alt-asset managers
2.1 What the business is and what moves the stocks
- Alt managers earn management fees on fee-earning AUM (steady; this drives fee-related earnings, FRE) plus performance revenue/carry when they sell assets (lumpy; this drives "net realizations"). Distributable earnings (DE) per share is the headline metric (Yahoo Finance/TIKR, 2026-10-22).
- What has driven the group in 2026: retail private-credit redemptions. Non-traded BDCs got $13.8B of Q3 redemption requests (11.5% of NAV), and about 40% were paid, per Stanger data. Blue Owl's two big funds' requests fell to $4.2B in Q3 from $4.7B in Q2 and $5.4B in Q1 (The Closing Print, 2026-10-12; secondary summary). Other drivers are higher rates, which slow exits, and software-loan exposure. Goldman Sachs Asset Management said redemption requests are "starting to moderate" (CNBC, 2026-10-06).
- YTD to Oct 22 (Yahoo daily, my calc):
| BX | KKR | APO | ARES | OWL | CG | TPG | BAM | BLK | XLF | SPY | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YTD | −23.0% | −27.0% | −20.7% | −23.5% | −35.0% | −33.7% | −27.7% | −9.1% | +6.3% | +3.4% | +12.0% |
BLK (a traditional/ETF manager) does not share the private-credit drawdown.
2.2 BX's Q3 (Oct 22 BMO): primary facts and today's corrections to the 09:00 note
- Headline numbers:
- DE $1.32/sh vs $1.26 est. (from $1.52 a year ago).
- FRE $1.6B (+6%); base management fees $1.99B (+4%).
- Inflows $63.3B in the quarter and $271.6B over 12 months.
- Net realizations $332M (−34%); PE realized performance revenue −49%.
- GAAP revenue $3.06B, below estimates.
- Management expects Q4 realizations to "rise significantly" and base-fee growth to return to double digits in 2027 (Yahoo/TIKR, 2026-10-22).
- Credit & insurance: AUM $480B (+11%), inflows $35.8B, deployment $13.4B. Private credit returned 2.6% gross / 1.8% net in Q3 (Alternative Credit Investor, 2026-10-22).
- The weak spot is BCRED (from the call, per AltsWire, 2026-10-22):
- Q3 net outflows widened to $1.4B (from $1.2B).
- Repurchase requests equalled 10% of NAV, twice the 5% cap; about 50% were filled.
- NAV/share fell to $23.51, the 5th straight quarterly decline. Gross sales were ~$750M (from $1B).
- Management gave no Q4 BCRED request outlook. The final Q3 repurchase dollar amount will be disclosed "in November", so this is an unscheduled headline risk.
- Offsetting this: BREIT had its best regular-way net flows in four years, BXPE posted record sales of $2.9B, and Jon Gray said "no private credit apocalypse".
- Next BX print: Yahoo shows ~2027-01-28 as an estimate. TRAI has
next = null(S-008). No BX catalyst is scheduled inside the 5-day window.
2.3 Was Oct 22 a BX move or a group move? (my calc; 60-session OLS on log returns ending Oct 21)
| Model for BX's Oct 22 return (+8.05% log) | Predicted | Residual | z |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPY only (≈ TRAI's method; β 2.00) | −2.84% | +10.89% | 6.16 (TRAI: 6.19) |
| XLF only (β 1.61) | +1.49% | +6.55% | 3.53 |
| SPY + alt-peer basket (avg of KKR/APO/ARES/OWL/CG/TPG; β_peers 0.92) | +3.93% | +4.11% | 3.67 |
- On Oct 22 the peers rose too: KKR +3.58%, APO +2.81%, ARES +5.72%, OWL +5.89%, CG +5.18%, TPG +4.74%, BAM +3.45%. BLK fell −1.07%, XLF rose +1.09% and SPY fell −1.18% (Yahoo daily).
- Caveat: the peers' move was partly a reaction to BX's own print, so the peer-basket model understates BX's company-specific component. Read the true idiosyncratic z as somewhere between ~3.7 and ~6.2, not 6.2.
- TRAI's residual is SPY-only. With a beta of ~2 to SPY on a down-SPY day, it labels the whole group re-rating as BX-specific (→ S-046).
2.4 Today (Yahoo 5m, 15:12 ET)
| Name | vs Oct 22 close | Open→15:12 | Day low | Day high | ρ to BX (TRAI 60d) | Next print (verified) |

- Tape: Reuters (updated 2:06 PM ET): "consumer staples and financial groups leading the declines". The Dow was −1.18% and the S&P −0.43%. AXP was −3.9% after its print. Investors are positioning for the Fed meeting (Wed) and "increasingly focused on the November 3 midterm elections" (Reuters via Investing.com, 2026-10-23).
- Read:
- The peer basket is about −2.0% on average (KKR/APO/ARES/OWL/CG/TPG), so about 40% of its Oct 22 gain has been given back.
- BX at −1.29% has given back ~15% of its move and is outperforming peers by ~0.7 pp.
- From the open, BX is +0.32% while KKR is −1.07%.
- The day-2 long_momentum entry on BX is roughly flat before costs. No fill/fade signal.
- Deal news today (no price impact found):
- KKR agreed (10-22) to buy IEP Technologies and Newson Gale, the majority of HOERBIGER's safety unit. It also agreed (10-19) to sell Infinity Transportation to Ares for $2.9B EV, closing Q1 2027 (ad-hoc-news, 2026-10-23; secondary).
- Apollo will take ~two-thirds of a $2.0B UDR apartment JV ($1.34B equity), expected to close 10-29 (Apollo, 2026-10-22).
- These are portfolio-level items, not earnings catalysts.
- No SEC filing, guidance change or macro release in the last hour was found that bears on this group. The BCRED repurchase total is due "in November", date not given (AltsWire, above).
2.5 Do peer prints move BX? (Yahoo daily, my calc; reaction-day close-to-close, 13 prints per peer, 2023-06 → 2026-08)
| Peer reporter | Mean \ | reporter\ | Mean \ | BX\ | that day | BX same sign as reporter | ρ(reporter, BX) across prints | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KKR | 3.33% | 1.51% | 92% | 0.74 | ||||
| CG | 5.03% | 1.64% | 92% | 0.77 | ||||
| TPG | 3.45% | 1.76% | 85% | 0.58 | ||||
| ARES | 3.88% | 1.53% | 62% | 0.65 | ||||
| APO | 3.86% | 1.75% | 62% | 0.45 | ||||
| OWL | 4.05% | 2.06% | 54% | 0.52 |
- BX's average |daily move| since 2023-06 is 1.63%. A single peer print therefore does not make BX move more than usual on average, but it does set the direction (≥ 85% sign agreement for KKR/CG/TPG).
- The crowded case matters:
- 2026-02-05: ARES, OWL, TPG and KKR all reported. ARES −11.19%, OWL −3.57%, TPG −4.55%, KKR −5.35%, BX −5.73% (o→c −4.90%), XLF −1.24%.
- 2024-08-01/02 (APO, OWL, then ARES): BX −3.60% and −2.90%.
- Thu 10-29 repeats the ARES + OWL + TPG same-morning setup, plus GDP/PCE at 8:30 ET, the MA/CAT BMO prints and the GOOGL/MSFT reaction session (see the 14:00 report §2).
- Anecdotal, n = 2 crowded days.
- Reverse direction (BX prints → peers): across 17 BX prints since 2022, peers' same-day moves averaged near zero (KKR −0.20%, APO −0.21%, ARES +0.71%, OWL −0.55%). The two BX reactions above +4% (2023-01-26, 2024-10-17) both came with all peers up 1.4–4.9%, as on Oct 22.
2.6 BX day-2 behaviour (Yahoo daily, my calc)
- After BX's own prints (n = 17, 2022-07 → 2026-07): mean day-2 gap +0.12%, mean day-2 o→c −0.43%, day-2 close-to-close −0.30%.
- After the two prints with a reaction above +4%, day-2 o→c was +2.41% (2023-01-26) and +0.45% (2024-10-17). n = 2.
- Today so far: gap −1.60%, o→c +0.32%.
- After any BX day above +5% since 2022 (n = 32): next-day o→c mean +0.14%, median +0.34%, hit 56%, t 0.28. No edge.
- TRAI /api/events (last 4 prints): avg |gap| 1.66% (0.5 ATR), fill 75%, continuation 25%, avg day-1 in gap direction −3.35%. BX's earnings gaps are small, and the day-1 move tends to reverse them; Oct 22 was the extreme case (−2.05% gap → +10.65% open→close).
- TRAI replay on BX (/api/scorecard replayTrades, net of 5 bp + impact, my calc): three long_momentum trades, +0.11%, −1.89% and −3.42% (the last on the 2026-10-15 signal). Too few to use.
3. SPOT and NFLX
3.1 SPOT (reported Oct 22 BMO)
- Facts (from the 09:00 note, primary 6-K Ex. 99.1):
- Q3: Premium subs 306M (1M above guide), MAUs 788M, revenue €5.0B (+16%), GM 33.0%, operating income €672M.
- Q4 guide: subs 316M, MAUs 818M, revenue €5.2B, GM 33.8%, operating income €820M.
- New today:
- The Q4 revenue guide of €5.2B is slightly below the Bloomberg consensus of €5.24B; the subs guide is above consensus (per Tikr via Yahoo).
- Management expects opex growth to moderate into 2027 (Zacks via Yahoo, 2026-10-23 8:00 ET).
- Analyst targets raised: Guggenheim $575→$650 (Buy), Rosenblatt $527→$576 (Neutral), Cantor $490→$550 (Neutral); Citizens reiterated $625 (Benzinga, 2026-10-23 11:18 ET).
- Morgan Stanley ($640→$700), Barclays ($565→$650) and Raymond James ($600→$625) raises appeared only in search-result headlines (MarketBeat/Investing.com, 2026-10-23). They were not opened, so treat them as unverified.
- Ad revenue growth accelerated to 9% cc, from 3% in each of Q1–Q2 (Citizens, per Benzinga).
- Today (Yahoo 5m, 15:12 ET): +0.22% vs Oct 22, open +0.50%, o→c −0.28%, range −2.01% to +1.74%. Flat around the open, a ±2% intraday range, no trend.
- Next print: not scheduled; TRAI has
next = null(S-008). Historically early February.
3.2 SPOT is an anti-semis factor name in 2026 (my calc unless marked)
- TRAI 60d ρ (/api/correlations): SPOT–KLAC −0.60, ETN −0.60, ASML −0.59, AMAT −0.57, CAT −0.57. Top positive: NFLX 0.67, INTU 0.54, KO 0.49, MA 0.46.
- 60d OLS of SPOT's Oct 22 return (+10.53% log):
- SPY-only gives residual z 4.02 (TRAI 4.32).
- SPY + SMH (β_SMH −0.89) predicts +3.65%: about a third of the move was the semis selloff (SMH −5.99%) rotating into non-AI growth. Residual z falls to 3.44.
- Regime shift:
- On SMH ≤ −4% days in 2026 (n = 11), SPOT averaged +2.61% and was up 82% of the time.
- Across all of 2022–2026 (n = 51), it averaged −2.17% and was up 27% of the time.
- The negative link is new this year; it was positive before. SPOT–SMH ρ by year: 2022 +0.67, 2023 +0.33, 2024 +0.33, 2025 +0.40, 2026 YTD −0.17 (daily returns).
- Today SMH is +0.92% and SPOT +0.22%. The inverse link did not show up as a SPOT give-back today.
- Portfolio implication: a SPOT long next to semis fade-longs (ASML/AMD/NVDA/INTC/MU in today's mean_reversion bucket) partly hedges them, and next to semis short_momentum names it adds to the same bet. This is the S-014 net-exposure point, extended to a name outside "Software".
3.3 SPOT / NFLX day-2 history (Yahoo daily, my calc)
- SPOT after its own prints (n = 17, 2022-07 → 2026-08): day-2 o→c mean +0.66%, median +0.87%. After up reactions (n = 10), the mean was −0.27%. The day-2 o→c sign matched the reaction-day sign in 47% of cases, so there is no continuation pattern. After any SPOT day above +7% (n = 20): next o→c mean +0.42%, median +0.95%, hit 60%.
- NFLX reported 10-20 AMC (reaction 10-21: gap −6.61%, c-c −5.31%; day-2 10-22 +3.09%) (TRAI /api/events, Yahoo).
- Its last 4 reactions were all down-gaps: 0/4 filled, avg |gap| 8.64% (3.17 ATR).
- On SPOT's reaction days, NFLX's |move| averaged 1.55% vs 1.68% on all days. The ρ of reaction-day returns is 0.24, so SPOT's prints do not drag NFLX.
- NFLX prints do co-move with SPOT (ρ 0.64, my calc, n = 18).
- NFLX next print: 2027-01-19 (TRAI estimate).
- Today NFLX is −1.42% (o→c −1.37%) while SPOT is flat.
3.4 TRAI replay on SPOT/NFLX (/api/scorecard, my calc)
- SPOT long_momentum: three trades (+2.88%, −3.23%, +2.66%).
- NFLX long_momentum: one trade (+5.30%).
- Too few to use.
4. Replay context for today's two long_momentum candidates (TRAI /api/scorecard replayTrades, net of 5 bp + impact, open→close next session, my calc)
| Slice | n | Mean | Median | Hit | t |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| long_momentum, all | 385 | +0.05% | — | 47.8% | 0.30 |
| long_momentum, VIX transitional + trend choppy (today's regime) | 77 | −0.11% | — | 40.3% | −0.32 |
| long_momentum, signal day = own earnings reaction day (BX/SPOT today) | 48 | −0.56% | −0.41% | 43.8% | −1.19 |
| long_momentum, Thursday signal → Friday trade | 108 | −0.16% | −0.32% | 46.3% | −0.47 |
| long_momentum, Thursday signal, transitional + choppy | 30 | −0.75% | −0.41% | 36.7% | −1.69 |
| long_momentum, Financials | 35 | +0.15% | +0.04% | 51.4% | 0.38 |
- "Thursday signal" is based on the signal date's weekday and ignores holidays.
- My replay mean for all long_momentum trades (+0.05%) differs from the /api/scorecard ranking figure (+0.133%, n 385). The ranking probably uses a different impact or rank filter (topN = 3); this is unverified.
- Read: every slice that applies to BX and SPOT today is ≤ 0, and none is significant. This supports S-005 (no drift premium for day-2 earnings entries).
5. Data issue found: /api/options mis-times BMO prints
/api/options (asOf 2026-10-22):
- BX:
earnings.date 2026-10-22, timing "unknown", reactionSession 2026-10-23, histAvgAbsGap 1.16%. - SPOT: the same, with reactionSession 2026-10-23.
Both companies reported BMO on Oct 22, so the reaction session was Oct 22 (/api/events correctly says BMO, reaction 2026-10-22, BX avg |gap| 1.66%). The options module therefore treats today as BX's and SPOT's earnings-reaction session and prices a 10-23-expiry "implied move" (BX ±2.60%, SPOT ±2.68%) for a day with no event.
In the other direction, KKR shows impliedVsHist 3.7× because the Nov 13 expiry used covers ~15 non-event sessions (the same issue as AAPL in the 14:00 report). Any gap-risk logic or dashboard badge that reads /api/options earnings fields would mis-flag these names. See S-045.
6. Actionable for today (Fri 10-23, after 15:00) and the weekend: explicit
- No catalyst in the last hour changes gap risk on a current TRAI candidate. No BX, KKR, SPOT or NFLX filing, guidance change or macro release was found after 14:00 ET. TRAI is flat by 3:55 PM, so nothing is held into the weekend.
- BX (long_momentum): −1.29%, +0.32% from the open, outperforming its peers (−2.0% avg) and XLF (−1.24%) on a day when financials lead the declines (Reuters). If it is already held, nothing new argues for an early exit. If not, the day-2 earnings replay (n 48, −0.56%) and the Thursday-signal transitional/choppy slice (n 30, −0.75%) argue against a late entry. Tie-breaker only.
- SPOT (long_momentum): flat (+0.22%; o→c −0.28%). No news after the 11:18 ET analyst-target round-up. Its factor exposure is anti-semis (§3.2).
- Monday 10-26: no alt-manager or SPOT/NFLX event. The first group catalyst is Thu 10-29 BMO (ARES, OWL, TPG): BX and KKR reach "2 sessions to peer event" on Tue 10-27 and are inside any 5-day peer window from today. APO is Tue 11-03 BMO (election day), CG Thu 11-05, BAM Fri 11-06 BMO, KKR Mon 11-09 BMO.
- Unscheduled weekend or next-week risk:
- BCRED's final Q3 repurchase figure ("in November"; AltsWire).
- General private-credit headlines (no specific item verified this hour).
- Oil/Middle East (energy at a record high today per Reuters).
7. Strategy implications (proposals; see strategy.md)
- S-045 (data fix): /api/options must use /api/events timing (BMO/AMC) when deriving
reactionSession, and must not compute "implied move vs history" from expiries that include many non-event sessions (§5). - S-046 (proposal / NEEDS DATA): add a peer-factor residual next to the SPY residual (cluster basket or sector ETF; SMH for anti-semis names), and show the share of the move explained by the group. BX z falls from 6.16 to 3.67 and SPOT from 4.02 to 3.44 (§2.3, §3.2).
- S-047 (proposal; extends S-004/S-019/S-024): load out-of-universe alt managers (ARES, APO, OWL, CG, TPG, BAM) as context symbols with earnings dates. Flag BX/KKR/BLK "peer-event risk" on days when ≥ 2 of them report, starting with Thu 10-29 (§2.5).
- S-048 (NEEDS DATA): a Friday-entry, day-2 earnings long_momentum filter in transitional + choppy regimes. Appended as evidence to S-005, and also filed as a separate question (§4).
- S-049 (NEEDS DATA): detect sign flips in factor exposure. SPOT's link to semis went from positive (2022–25) to strongly negative (2026). The netting in S-014 should use the current 60d ρ, and a ρ-regime flag should mark names whose sign flipped (§3.2).
- S-050 (NEEDS DATA; whiggity): BX long / alt-peer basket short from day-2 15:30 after a BX blowout print (§9).
- S-051 (NEEDS DATA; whiggity): separate the 8:30 macro prints from alt-manager earnings alpha in the 9:30–10:30 window; first live case Thu 10-29 (§9).
- S-047 and S-049 gained the BDC-canary and SPOT/SMH conditional-ρ additions (§9).
8. Unknowns / open questions
- Consensus for ARES/OWL/TPG Q3: a calendar aggregator shows EPS est. ARES 1.26, OWL 0.23, TPG 0.62 (investingcalendar.com). Secondary and unverified; not used.
- CG date: IR says Thu 11-05 (call 8:30 ET) and Yahoo says 11-04. IR is used. The CG release time is not stated in the IR text read.
- BX's next print date is not announced (Yahoo estimate 2027-01-28).
- A Reuters BX results page timed out on fetch, so the BX facts here come from Yahoo/TIKR and AltsWire.
- My replay means differ from the /api/scorecard ranking; the cause is unverified (§4).
- The KKR deal items come from a secondary aggregator (ad-hoc-news).
9. Research partner (whiggity) consult
I consulted Kieran's Monica research bot whiggity in a new chat at ~15:15 ET with the brief from §1–§6 (the first attempt returned "Something went wrong"; the second succeeded). I treat its reply as input from a second researcher, not as a source. Items are tagged [whiggity]. This time I opened its cited links (accessed 2026-10-23 ~15:20–15:30 ET) and checked the rest against primary filings, my own Yahoo pulls (5m bars to 15:21 ET; daily bars) and TRAI /api/correlations. Bloomberg returned 403, so its Bloomberg claim is checked against the SEC filing the article is based on.
Verified (kept, with my citations)
- [whiggity] BX Q3 headline numbers: verified against the primary release. DE $1.7B ($1.32/sh); inflows $63.3B in the quarter and $271.6B LTM; total AUM $1,368.3B; Credit & Insurance AUM $480.0B with $35.8B of inflows; dividend $1.12 (Blackstone Q3 2026 press release PDF, 2026-10-22). This upgrades §2.2's Yahoo/TIKR figures to a primary source; none of them change.
- [whiggity] SPOT 306M Premium subscribers, +9% y/y: verified (Spotify newsroom, 2026-10-22). Also MAUs 788M (+11%), revenue €5.0B (+16%), GM 33.0%, operating income €672M, matching §3.1.
- [whiggity] BCRED $75.6B total investments, NAV/share $23.51, distribution rate ~8.9–9.2%: verified (bcred.com, data as of 2026-09-30). The 9.2% is Class I's annualized distribution rate (October distribution / September NAV); the page shows 8.9% and 8.3% for other share classes. NAV $23.51 matches §2.2 (AltsWire).
- [whiggity] BCRED capped Q3 redemptions after ~10% sought to exit; the cap was telegraphed in early September; investors were told ~75% of requested money within ~90 days: verified on the primary source the Bloomberg story reports. BCRED's Sep 3 letter (SC TO-I/A exhibit) says Q3 requests were ~$4.3B, ~10% of shares outstanding, BCRED will fill 5%, and investors who sought liquidity in Q2 and Q3 "will have received an estimated 75% of their requested capital within approximately 90 days". It also gives a Q2 backlog of $2.3B (about half of $4.5B filled), Q3 inflows ~2% of NAV and net outflow ~3% of NAV, liquidity >$17B and leverage 0.8x (BCRED SC TO-I/A Ex. (a)(1)(vii), SEC, 2026-09-03). Bloomberg's own page (2026-09-03) returned 403; its headline matches. Implication: the 10%-vs-5% cap in §2.2 was public seven weeks before BX's print, so it was not new information on Oct 22.
- [whiggity] BCRED Q1 2026: $3.2B of repurchases and $1.9B of gross inflows: verified (BCRED Q1 2026 shareholder letter, 2026-04-29). The letter adds that BCRED met all Q1 requests with help from capital invested by Blackstone and its senior leaders. The sequence is: Q1 fully met → Q2 ~half of $4.5B → Q3 5% of ~10%.
- [whiggity] ARES, OWL and TPG report Thu 10-29 BMO: verified (already in §2.4 from IR). StockTitan lists all three BMO on Thursday and names TPG's call at 11:00 ET (StockTitan earnings calendar, 2026-10-23). MarketBeat shows TPG's date only as "estimated" and consensus EPS $0.62 (MarketBeat TPG); TPG IR (§2.4) is the confirmation.
- [whiggity] FOMC timing: verified. The meeting is Oct 27–28, statement Wed 2:00 PM ET. GDP (advance Q3) and September personal income/outlays (PCE) come at 8:30 AM ET on Thu 10-29, an hour before ARES/OWL/TPG trade (StockTitan above, citing the Fed and BEA calendars).
- [whiggity] Traded BDCs as canaries for OWL/ARES: the tickers exist and track the group; none is in the TRAI universe. OBDC (Blue Owl Capital Corp), OTF (Blue Owl Technology Finance), ARCC (Ares Capital) and FSK (FS KKR) are all live on Yahoo. None appears in
lib/universe.tsor /api/correlations (checked 15:25 ET). Oct 22 (Yahoo daily, my calc): OBDC +2.9%, OTF +3.4%, ARCC +2.1%, FSK +4.5%, so they joined the BX-day rally. Today at 15:21 ET they are −0.4% to −1.0%, giving back less than OWL (−2.98%) or TPG (−2.92%). This is a cheap read on the private-credit sleeve; it goes into S-047 as context symbols (below).
Contradicted or not confirmed
- [whiggity] "The Fed cuts on Oct 28", which it said could speed up non-traded BDC redemptions (it flagged the cut itself as unverified): contradicted by market pricing. CME FedWatch-based pricing on Oct 23 shows *~92% hold and ~8% for a 25 bp hike* at the Oct 28 meeting, and ~78.5% odds of at least one hike by December** after a 1.3% September PPI (Econ Data Tools summary of Investing.com's Fed monitor, 2026-10-23; secondary source, but several FedWatch mirrors agree). The "easing → redemptions" path is therefore not the base case. A hawkish surprise is the live tail; higher-for-longer helps floating-rate BDC income but slows PE exits (§2.1).
- [whiggity] SPOT EPS $3.12: not confirmed. Spotify reports in euros: Q3 diluted EPS €2.48 and basic €2.52 (SPOT 6-K Ex. 99.1). $3.12 could be a USD conversion or an aggregator figure (public.com's page is script-rendered and showed no readable figure). Not used.
- [whiggity] Price levels OWL ~$8.97–9.17 and ARES ~$117.01: stale. These are the Oct 19–21 closes (Yahoo: OWL 8.96 / 9.20 / 9.17; ARES 117.01 on Oct 21), i.e. before BX's print. Oct 22 closes were OWL $9.71 and ARES $123.70; at 15:21 ET today OWL is ~$9.42 and ARES ~$122.7. Not used.
- [whiggity] November BCRED catalysts "BCRED Q4 tender expiry / 10-Q ~Nov 12–16": dates partly wrong. BCRED's own filing pattern (SEC EDGAR, CIK 1803498) is:
- Final amendment with Q3 tender results + launch of the Q4 tender: filed together on the first business day of November: 2024-11-01 and 2025-11-03 (2025 final amendment). By that pattern, the "final Q3 repurchase amount in November" (§2.2) most likely lands ~Mon 11-02, the day before APO's print and the midterm election. Not announced; inferred.
- 10-Q: 2024-11-13 and 2025-11-13, so ~Thu 11-12 or Fri 11-13 is likely. whiggity's mid-November window holds for the 10-Q.
- Q4 tender expiry: tenders expire at month-end (the Q3 offer expired Aug 31, 2026), with the requests letter in early December (2024-12-09, 2025-12-10). So the Q4 request rate is an early-December event, not mid-November.
Consistent with my findings, but whiggity's framing goes further than the data
- [whiggity] Day-2 drift after a z > 3.5 BX beat: flat to negative, with peers underperforming by 100–250 bp (no source). Direction fits §2.6 (BX's 17 prints: mean day-2 o→c −0.43%) and today (BX −1.21% vs a peer average of about −2.0%, so ~80 bp of relative outperformance at 15:21 ET). The magnitude is below its range, and the only two comparable >+4% prints had positive BX day-2 o→c (+2.41%, +0.45%). n = 2–3; treat as a hypothesis (S-050).
- [whiggity] SPOT/NFLX traded in 2026 as "zero-capex AI beneficiaries" against semis, and correlation flips are fragile over 4–8 weeks (no source). The flip is in my data (§3.2, S-049); the label and the 4–8 week durability claim are unsourced. A quick test of its conditional idea (Yahoo daily, my calc): SPOT–SMH ρ in 2026 is −0.22 on SMH < −2% days (n = 42) and −0.10 on other days (n = 162). In 2025 it was +0.18 and +0.29. So the negative link is stronger on semis selloffs but is not limited to them. NFLX was −1.60% today with SMH +0.82%, which does not fit a clean "anti-semis pair" either.
- [whiggity] Relative vulnerability on 10-29: OWL the most fundamentally exposed (software direct-lending marks, PIK share, OCIC wealth redemptions), ARES the highest expectation risk (ASIF overlap), TPG the cleanest (institutional credit via Angelo Gordon). The OWL part matches Stanger's data: Blue Owl Credit Income Corp (OCIC) had Q3 requests of 16.8% of shares and Blue Owl Technology Income Corp 39.0% (Q2: 18.8% / 38.1%) (Stanger, 2026-10-02). OWL also has the worst YTD (−35.0%, §2.1). The ARES/TPG rankings and the PIK/software-mark specifics have no source here. Interpretation, not a signal.
- [whiggity] Counter-evidence: private credit is shifting toward institutional and insurance mandates (APO, BX). Consistent with BX's release (Credit & Insurance inflows $35.8B, including $18.0B for infrastructure and asset-based credit) and BCRED's Q1 letter (institutions are ~80% of the asset class; BXCI hit a $10B hard cap on its opportunistic credit fund). This supports §2's read that wealth-channel redemptions are a BCRED/OCIC-specific headline risk, not a group-wide funding problem.
Open questions (not verified; not used as facts)
- [whiggity] Stanger non-traded BDC report "~Nov 10–13". Stanger's Q3 tender tallies came out on Sep 24 and Oct 2 (link above), as tenders closed. A Q4 tally would follow the end-November tender expiries, so a mid-November tender report looks unlikely. Stanger's monthly Market Pulse (fundraising) date was not checked.
- [whiggity] KKR KREST / K-FIT tender filings mid-November. Not checked this hour. If the pattern matches BCRED, the dates fall around KKR's Mon 11-09 print.
- [whiggity] Options-implied moves (straddles) for ARES/OWL/TPG on 10-29. It flagged these as unverified; TRAI /api/options does not cover out-of-universe names. Not used.
- [whiggity] No confirmed news after 2 PM ET on BX/KKR/SPOT/NFLX. This matches my own null result (§6), but neither of us found positive confirmation. It is not new evidence.
Quant tests filed in strategy.md (proposals)
- (1) Long BX / short peer basket (ARES, OWL, TPG) from day-2 15:30 through the peers' T−1 close, conditioned on BX's day-1 residual z > 3 and peers up > 3%: new S-050, NEEDS DATA. First live case: entry today (BX −1.21% vs ARES −0.81 / OWL −2.98 / TPG −2.92 at 15:21), exit Wed 10-28 close. TRAI cannot run it (no shorts on out-of-universe names, and it is a multi-day hold).
- (2) SPOT/SMH conditional beta: is the negative correlation only on SMH < −2% days? Appended to S-049 with the quick look above (no: −0.22 vs −0.10).
- (3) On 10-29, do the 8:30 AM macro prints (GDP/PCE/claims) wash out alt-manager earnings alpha from 9:30 to 10:30? New S-051, NEEDS DATA. It is tied to S-047's "no fades before 10:30" rule.
- The BDC canary idea (OBDC, OTF, ARCC, FSK) was appended to S-047.
Did the consult change the verdict?
No. "Nothing actionable today" stands. As of 15:21 ET:
- BX is −1.21% (+0.39% from the open) and SPOT +0.34% (−0.16% from the open). TRAI is flat by 3:55 PM, so nothing carries into the weekend.
- whiggity's checkable facts mostly held up: the BX/SPOT/BCRED numbers and the 10-29 calendar. Its BCRED cap story was already public on Sep 3.
- Two claims were wrong: the Fed-cut premise (markets price a hold, with hike risk) and the stale OWL/ARES prices. Its November BCRED dates were partly off.
- What it adds concerns next week and early November: the BDC canaries for 10-29, a likely BCRED final-tender filing ~11-02, and the BCRED 10-Q ~11-12/13. None touches today's candidates.
