2026-11-03 09:00 ET: AAPL and PLTR turned from green at 17:00 to −3% by 17:30 and −4% / −6% pre-market (S-133's 19:55 read had the sign right; yesterday's 17:05 read did not); semis +3% pre-market rebound against the suspended short-momentum names (AMD +4.3% into its own print tonight); energy fade-longs open another ~1.2% lower with crude; SHOP −16%, FISV +10% on Tuesday BMO prints

Slot: Tue 2026-11-03 09:00 ET hourly research (US election day). Status: written ~09:08–09:25 ET (EST); whiggity consult folded into §8 at ~09:20. Screening/research, not investment advice.
TRAI data used: /api/latest = premarket run 2026-11-02_premarket_2026-11-03T13-58-09-782Z (8:58 AM ET; buckets still from the 11-02 session, marketSessionDate 2026-11-02). Quotes: Yahoo chart API, 5-min bars incl. pre-market, read 09:10 ET, against the official 11-02 daily close. Unofficial, may be delayed; pre-market prints are thin. All replay statistics are my own calculations (scripts named below).
Previous slot: 2026-11-02 17:00 (settled AH at 17:05, Tuesday BMO slate vs candidates). Not repeated here.

1. Focus and why

  • Correction to last night's read. The 17:00 report showed AAPL +0.5% and PLTR +1.2% after hours at 17:05 ET. Both reversed within 30 minutes and are −4.0% / −6.5% pre-market. PLTR is on the (suspended) short-momentum list. This is the live test of S-133.
  • Semis rebound. SMH +2.9% pre-market after a three-day slide. AMD (short-momentum list, prints tonight AMC), CSCO and ORCL are all indicated against their short-momentum signal.
  • Tuesday BMO results are out: SHOP, FISV, PFE, ETN, MPC, APO.

3. The AMC reporters: after-hours → pre-market path (my calc, scripts/research-calcs/2026-11-03-ah-to-premarket-timeline.py)

Move vs the 11-02 close at each time (last 5-min bar that had ended):

Name16:3017:0017:3018:0019:5504:3007:0009:00

VRTX0.0+0.3+0.9+1.2+0.5+0.3+1.2+2.7

What moved them (sourced):

  • AAPL. December-quarter guide given on the call by CFO Kevan Parekh: revenue +7% to +10% y/y, Services +8% to +9%, gross margin 45%–46% (vs a 46.3% LSEG average estimate), opex $20.4–20.8B. CEO John Ternus: memory pricing is "unprecedented" and "looking beyond the December quarter, we see the pricing for memory purchases continuing to increase." iPad revenue −10% (supply constraints). (CNBC, 2026-11-03; Motley Fool transcript, 2026-11-02; Reuters via Investing.com, 2026-11-03). The margin guide came in prepared remarks, just before Q&A, which matches the 17:00 → 17:30 drop. This closes the open question from last night's report (the guide was "not found at writing").
  • PLTR. Beat (rev $2.31B vs ~$2.18B; adj EPS $0.44 vs $0.41), but total TCV +6% y/y vs +49% in Q2 and US commercial TCV +11% vs +153% in Q2 (Investing.com, 2026-11-03; CNBC, 2026-11-03, citing William Blair and Piper Sandler notes; MarketWatch: −8% to $164.05 at its read). The bookings numbers were in the release (noted last night at +6% / +11%); the market priced them during and after the call.
  • ON. Recovered from −6% to +3% overnight. No source found for what on the call drove it; the pre-market leg coincides with the sector rebound (§4). [UNV]

S-133 check (live, n = 4): the 19:55 read had the sign of the 09:00 pre-market move right for AAPL, PLTR and VRTX; ON was −0.5% at 19:55 and +3.2% at 09:00 (wrong sign, but small). The 17:00 read was wrong-signed for AAPL and PLTR. Lesson for the report process: an AH snapshot taken during the call (17:00–17:30 for 5 PM calls) is the least reliable one.

4. Semis and memory rebound

  • Pre-market (09:10): LRCX +4.8%, SNDK +4.5%, AMD +4.3%, MCHP +4.1%, MU +3.7%, SMCI +3.7%, ADI +3.4%, TXN +2.8%, ANET +2.0%, SMH +2.9%.
  • Sources describe dip-buying after a ~12% three-day slide in US chipmakers (Coinlive/BIT data, 2026-11-03; Barchart, 2026-11-03). Monday's drivers: Kioxia's weaker profit outlook (NAND price plateau worry) and INTC's PC-demand warning (TipRanks, 2026-11-03); Marvell's all-stock deal for Lumentum (LITE −18%) and ORCL −8% on its $20B AI financing plan (Barchart).
  • AMD tonight AMC: consensus ~$13.1B revenue / $1.95 adj EPS; Morgan Stanley PT $465 → $510 (Hold) (Invezz via finwire, 2026-11-03) [S-1]. SMCI and ANET also print tonight AMC (/api/events).
  • AAPL's memory comment cuts both ways: a cost headwind for device makers (AAPL, DELL, HPQ) and confirmation of pricing power for memory (MU, SNDK, WDC, STX). Pre-market agrees: memory +3.3% to +4.5%, DELL +2.8%, HPQ +0.8%, AAPL −4.0%. One morning, not a tested linkage. [CALC on Yahoo quotes]
  • Short-momentum is suspended, so the semis rebound against AMD/ORCL/CSCO is a data point for S-119 (cause-tagged SM replay), not a trade.

5. Test: does the overnight extension predict the reaction day? (my calc, scripts/research-calcs/2026-11-03-overnight-extension-amc.py)

Same 36 AMC prints from /api/events as S-131/S-133 (09-10 → 10-29, 10 report dates), Yahoo 5-min. Extension = 09:00 pre-market move − 19:55 AH move, signed in the 19:55 direction.

  • Median extension +0.21 pp; 20/36 extended further, 16/36 retraced; 5/36 flipped sign overnight.
  • r(09:00 pre-market, open gap) 0.98 vs r(19:55, open gap) 0.95. The 09:00 read is the best gap estimate available before the open, as expected.
  • r(extension, open→close in the AH direction) 0.02: no linear signal.
  • Buckets: extension ≥ +1 pp, n 11: open→close continued 8/11, mean +0.67%; extension < +1 pp, n 25: continued 11/25, mean −0.81%. Suggestive, not significant (n 11, 10 dates, overlapping names).
  • Today's three: AAPL extension +1.3 pp, PLTR +3.0 pp, ON (flipped) — all in the ≥ +1 pp bucket. Watch, don't act.

7. What this means for today (screening view)

  • Energy fade-longs (OXY/XOM/CVX) open ~1–1.3% further down with crude still falling. That is the S-117 / S-130 setup (energy after an oil shock, conditioned on the pre-open crude move). S-130 says don't chase oil-shock momentum on day 2; nothing here says the fade is working yet.
  • LOW (fade-short) is −2.1% pre-open: about half of yesterday's +4.3% is already given back before TRAI's 10:00 entry. Under a mirrored S-121, the remaining edge from 10:00 is smaller.
  • DASH, the only long-momentum name, is indicated −1%.
  • Election day: midterm results arrive after the close; TRAI is flat by 15:55, so this is overnight gap risk for anything held, not intraday. Covered in the 16:00 report.

8. whiggity consult (new chat, sent ~09:08, reply ~09:12 ET; conversation)

whiggity hit its tool budget after four search rounds, so coverage was partial. What it added, and what I did with it:

  • Crude driver (from whiggity, verified): it found a same-morning "airlines rise as Middle East diplomacy drives oil lower" headline. Verified: WTI fell below $95 (−2.3% to $94.23 at CNBC's read; Brent −3% to $101.54) on hopes for a US–Iran diplomatic resolution, with the caveat that reported US strikes on Qeshm Island could reverse it (CNBC, 2026-11-03; The Peninsula, 2026-11-03). For the energy fade-longs this means the day-2 oil move is headline-driven and two-sided, which is the S-130 "don't chase" case and also a case where the fade can snap back on one headline.
  • PLTR framing (from whiggity, agrees with §3): the release headline (revenue +96%, FY guide raised) and the TCV deceleration point opposite ways in the same document; US commercial remaining deal value +79% y/y to $6.517B (Motley Fool transcript, 2026-11-02). Already in last night's report.
  • AAPL: whiggity could not open Apple's sources and tagged the 45–46% guide [UNV]; I verified it in the call transcript and CNBC (§3). Its claim that a quote panel showed AAPL −0.19% pre-market is a stale or last-close reading; the Yahoo 5-min pre-market bars and CNBC/Reuters (~−4%) agree with each other. Rejected.
  • MRVL/LITE: whiggity timed the Marvell–Lumentum deal headline to this morning; Barchart reports it moved stocks Monday (LITE −18%). Treated as Monday news.
  • Not verified by whiggity: ON, SHOP, FISV, PFE, ETN, MPC, AMD consensus, semis percentages (budget). MPC sign conflict stays open.
  • Test ideas from whiggity (open questions, added to S-136): (1) split AMC gaps by whether ≥ 50% of the move formed after the call started vs in the first 10 min after the release, then compare the 10:00–11:00 return; needs call-start times. (2) Energy fade-longs when crude is down > 1% pre-market with a diplomacy headline vs without. (3) Does a same-week sector M&A headline in a sector down ≥ 10% over three sessions change day-1 continuation odds for its members?

9. Strategy links

  • S-133 (evidence added): live case confirms the 19:55 read beat the 17:00 read on AAPL and PLTR; add "never use a snapshot taken during the call window".
  • S-135 (new, PROPOSAL): add a 09:00 ET pre-market refresh of the AMC/BMO gap estimate.
  • S-136 (new, NEEDS DATA): overnight-extension bucket as a day-1 continuation filter.
  • S-134 (evidence added): FISV +9.8% → PYPL +0.15% pre-market.
