2026-11-06 12:00 EST — Industrials are not one factor: HON MR fade path, UNP STB merger friction, GEV HVDC booking, ETN/CAT cluster-1 bounce

Hourly research report. Research slot: Friday November 6, 2026, 12:00 PM EST (America/New_York). Market/API evidence: TRAI /api/latest still the 8:58 AM ET premarket run when checked at noon; Yahoo regular-session snapshots ~12:10 PM ET. Issuer primaries cited below. Screening/research, not investment advice. No rule is implemented by this report.

Actionable for today's (Fri Nov 6) trading: NO. The live-rule entry window was 10:00 AM EST (60-minute time stop → ~11:00). Midday industrials paths and the GEV India HVDC booking do not change Friday same-day gap risk on live candidates; short_momentum stays suspended; HON's partial bounce is a post-window observation under S-144, not a new validated fade. Weekend / Mon prep remains the 11:00 gap stack.

1. Incremental focus (rotate from 09:00 / 10:00 / 11:00)

Prior Fri hours covered VST/MRNA/CEG (09:00, 10:00) and the Mon gap stack TTD/KKR/HIMS/OXY/MARA/BRK (11:00). This hour rotates to the TRAI "Industrials ×5" SM residual tag vs true correlation structure:

  1. HON — top mean_reversion fade-long on the 8:58 run (z1d −4.93, residualZ −3.5, relVol 1.22) after Thu −5.55% with no same-day company print (last issuer raise was 2026-10-22).
  2. SM suspended industrials residuals: UNP, DE, GEV, CAT, ETN — sector flag groups them; 60d clusters do not.
  3. Fresh public catalysts this week: GEV 2026-11-06 India 6 GW HVDC booking; UNP/NS STB Decision No. 45 (2026-11-04) on the SWARS video / retaliation discovery; ETN 2026-11-03 beat/raise still in the rear-view; CAT 2026-10-29 print aftermath.

2. Live TRAI evidence and clock audit

Read-only API checks returned HTTP 200 around finalization (~12:06–12:10 ET). Linked endpoints are mutable. Sources: latest, events, correlations, regime, scorecard.

3. Correlation structure vs sector flag [TRAI + S-001]

60-day clusters (/api/correlations, asOf 2026-11-05):

NameTRAI sector60d clusterNotable pairs
GEV, ETN, CATIndustrialsCluster 1 with semis / VRT / ANET (avg ρ 0.64)GEV–ETN 0.876; ETN–VRT 0.82; CAT–ETN 0.72; CAT–GEV 0.68

DEIndustrialsCluster 49 singletonDE–GEV −0.09; DE–ETN −0.07; DE–HON 0.00

Fading or shorting "industrials" as one book after a stress day is a label error. Proposed S-146 below.

4. HON — residual crush without a company headline [V-P history + TRAI]

Business: Honeywell Technologies — pure-play automation (Building Automation; Process Automation & Technology; Industrial Automation) after the Aerospace spin-off (Honeywell IR).

Last primary print (not today): Q3 results / raise, 2026-10-22 — sales $5.0B (+7% organic), adj. EPS $2.27 (+34%), segment margin 21.3% (+370 bp); FY26 sales $20.0–20.1B, organic 4–5%, adj. EPS $8.40–8.45, FCF ~$2.1B. TRAI last-4 avg |gap| 2.59% (1.08 ATR); Oct 22 gap −0.57%, day-1 drift +2.25%, reaction CC +1.67%.

Thu → Fri path: Thu close −5.55% (z1d −4.93, residZ −3.5, relVol 1.22 → MR fade-long). No HON issuer release found for Nov 5–6. Midday Fri ~+1.6% — partial mean-revert after the 10:00 live-rule window. Feeds S-144 (STRESS + inversion fade-longs need a regime-split test); do not treat the noon green as proof of edge.

Next earnings: TRAI estimate 2027-01-28 BMO (isEstimate: true).

5. UNP — rails idiosyncratic: STB merger friction [V-P / regulator]

Business: Class I freight railroad (Union Pacific). TRAI pairs it with UPS, not with GEV/ETN/CAT.

Catalyst this week (not earnings): Surface Transportation Board Decision No. 45, service date 2026-11-04, Docket FD 36873 (UP control of Norfolk Southern) — denied UP's appeal on the SWARS CEO-speech video, ordered redesignation as public by Nov 5 5:00 pm ET, ordered additional retaliation-related discovery, invited stakeholder reports (STB major mergers page; Railway Age coverage of compliance; Daily Herald 2026-11-06 summary). Comment deadline context Nov 18 appears in secondary coverage; treat schedule details as verify-on-STB if used for sizing.

Price path: Thu SM residual −3.43% (residZ −3.4); Fri midday still ~−1.9% while XLI is green and ETN/VRT bounce — consistent with idiosyncratic merger/regulatory risk, not AI-power beta.

Next earnings: TRAI estimate 2027-01-26 BMO; last-4 avg |gap| 3.94% (2.26 ATR).

6. GEV / ETN / CAT — cluster-1 AI-power electricals [V-P]

GEV — India 6 GW HVDC booked Q4 2026 (today)

Primary 2026-11-06: chosen by PowerGrid (PGCIL) for ±800 kV, 6,000 MW (2×3000 MW) bipolar HVDC Barmer II ↔ South Kalamb; booked in Q4 2026; full converter stations / erection / commissioning; LCC valves at Pallavaram (India); eLumina™ controls. Midday price ~+0.6% — not a mega-gap reaction; backlog/bookings narrative, not a TRAI earnings-gap event. SM remains suspended — do not reactivate on the press release.

Last earnings: 2026-10-28 BMO (TRAI: gap −2.09%, surprise +19.88% on EPS print fields). Next TRAI 2027-01-27 BMO.

ETN — post Nov 3 beat/raise, strongest midday bounce

Primary 2026-11-03: Q3 sales $8.9B (+28%, +19% organic); adj. EPS $3.68; segment margins 25.3%; Electrical backlog +46% y/y; COL Group acquisition for EU MV distribution / data-center & utility; FY26 adj. EPS guide $13.70–13.80; Q4 adj. EPS $4.05–4.15. TRAI reaction: gap +3.68% (0.77 ATR), day-1 drift +3.20%, reaction CC +7.0%. Fri midday ~+3.9% with VRT/ANET — cluster-1 continuation / bounce, not an SM short thesis while the screen is suspended.

CAT — Power & Energy backlog narrative still contested

Primary 2026-10-29: Q3 sales/revenues $20.7B (+17%); adj. EPS $7.20. Secondary Nov 6 piece frames Power Generation strength vs tariff/capacity/Q4 caution and a large monthly drawdown (Investing.com, 2026-11-06) — use for theme, not as a TRAI numeric source. TRAI last reaction gap −10.8% (2.97 ATR) on 10-29; Fri midday ~+1.2%.

DE — farm cycle singleton (brief)

Next TRAI print 2026-11-25 BMO (13 trading days; avg |gap| 4.66% / 1.87 ATR). Cluster 49 singleton — do not book with GEV/ETN. Midday ~+1.5%. Detailed farm-cycle research deferred unless it enters a live bucket.

7. Whiggity consult

New Monica chat with whiggity (title HON Industrials Mean Reversion Research), AS-OF Fri 2026-11-06 12:00 ET. Tool budget exhausted after 4 lookups — non-HON coverage thin (F11). Full reply captured after the initial push; this section is the fill.

Findings kept only where verified

IDWhiggity claimOur disposition
F1–F3HON 3Q26 beat/raise details (sales $4,994M, +7% organic, adj. EPS $2.27, backlog ~$19B, segment margins; PA&T −210 bps)Kept — matches issuer primary already cited in §4 (Honeywell IR / honeywell.com release, 2026-10-22). Note: whiggity’s IR URL host differs (investor.honeywell.com/...); figures align with the opened primary.
F4“First quarter as a standalone company”Kept as quote context; Aerospace completion date already in HON note as 2026-06-29 (not Jul snippet).
F5–F9Solstice/SOLS, Jul-2026 three-way split snippet, Aerospace call, undated quote widget, Yahoo “46%”Open / [UNV] — not used for strategy. F6 rejected as separation date (conflicts with known Jun 29 spin; whiggity also said pick neither).
F10No issuer release/8-K explaining Thu residual crushKept — same as §4 (no HON issuer news Nov 5–6).
F11UNP/DE/GEV/CAT/ETN not researched by whiggityExpected — those catalysts were filled independently in §§5–6 (STB Decision No. 45; GEV HVDC primary; ETN/CAT primaries).

Counter-evidence flagged by whiggity (facts, not a fade judgement): most recent issuer document is a guidance raise (F1–F2), so the Nov residual crush is not explained by found disclosure; PA&T margin −210 bps is the soft line in that release. Whether that matters for a 60-minute fade → Auditor/yoo (feeds S-144).

Handoffs (not findings)

  • Auditor: fade-long edge when prior-day residual crush has no identifiable issuer catalyst vs when it does; under VIX9D/VIX inversion; post-split ATR/beta stability for the 1 ATR / 2 ATR rule after Industrial Automation reported sales −23% (divestitures).
  • Scout: next dated events for HON/UNP/DE/CAT/ETN/GEV + Aerospace/SOLS spillover; ISM/PMI/payrolls.
  • yoo: Should GEV/ETN cluster with utilities/AI-power rather than XLI industrials for the 1-per-cluster rule? Should post-split HON stay in the Industrials cluster definition? → overlaps S-001 / S-146 (already proposed from TRAI clusters + midday path).

Quant questions (hypotheses only)

  1. Fade-long hit rate: no issuer 8-K/PR within 48h of crush vs release present.
  2. Fade within 15 trading days of a guidance raise (HON after 2026-10-22).
  3. Post-spin ATR regime shift — needs verified Aerospace completion date (KB: 2026-06-29).
  4. GEV/ETN intraday correlation with XLU vs XLI over ~60 sessions.

8. Strategy implications (proposals only)

Evidence adds

  • S-001 / S-014: Live Fri noon split — ETN/VRT/ANET/CAT green vs UNP still red under one "Industrials" SM flag. Use correlation clusters, not sector labels, for the 1-per-cluster cap.
  • S-144: HON midday ~+1.6% after Thu residual crush with no company news, under morning STRESS + inversion — still NEEDS DATA; observation is after the 10:00 window and scorecard liveRules remain negative. Midday VIX 23.61 / VIX9D/VIX ~1.07 also shows the 8:58 regime snapshot can be stale by noon — clock the vol print used for any regime gate.
  • S-141: GEV HVDC booking while still an SM residual — do not treat press-release greens as SM reactivation.
  • S-004 / peer map: GEV/ETN/CAT remain cluster-1 with semis; VST/CEG stay cluster-23 (merchant power) — keep the AI-power electrical vs IPP split from earlier Fri hours.

S-146 — Split TRAI "Industrials" SM/MR risk into rails / farm / AI-power electrical · PROPOSAL (extends S-001 / S-014)

  • Rule (proposal): when clusterFlag or sector label is Industrials, do not count UNP (cluster 18), DE (singleton), HON (cluster 22), and GEV/ETN/CAT (cluster 1) as one correlated risk unit. Cap exposure using 60d correlation clusters; optionally maintain a hand map: rails (UNP/UPS), farm (DE), automation (HON/GE), AI-power electrical (GEV/ETN/CAT/VRT).
  • Why (live case): Fri 2026-11-06 ~12:10 ET — ETN ~+3.9%, VRT ~+3.3%, ANET ~+6.9%, CAT ~+1.2%, GEV ~+0.6% vs UNP ~−1.9% on STB merger friction, while all five SM names shared "Industrials ×5" on the 8:58 run.
  • Test: on SM/MR signal days, compare same-day and next-open returns of sector-flagged industrials split by cluster id; measure book P&L when the engine allows one short from rails and one from cluster-1 electrical vs forcing a single industrials slot.
  • Evidence: this report §2–6.

9. Open questions

  1. Does a midday VIX drop from >26 to ~23.6 (with VIX9D/VIX falling toward ~1.07) change same-day MR fade expectancy after a 10:00 entry already taken — or only next-session regime? (S-144 clock question.)
  2. UNP: quantify whether STB headline days show elevated |residual| vs XLI that mean-reverts inside the session (needs event study; not claimed here).
  3. GEV HVDC bookings: typical same-day |move| distribution for non-earnings project announcements (unknown — today's ~+0.6% is one observation).
  4. HON: residualZ ≤ −3 non-earnings fades under STRESS — awaiting S-144 backtest; noon bounce is not a substitute.
