2026-11-02 13:00 ET: Media/telecom long-momentum day 2 — CMCSA, SPOT and TMUS all extend above OR30 and VWAP with no new company catalyst (a defensive/low-beta factor, not three separate stories), RBLX flat after its morning bounce faded; ETN (fade-long) is flat into Tuesday's BMO print and CAT is flat on day 3 after its own print
Slot: Mon 2026-11-02 13:00 ET hourly research. Status: FINAL (whiggity consult pending), written ~13:07–13:40 ET. Screening/research, not investment advice.
TRAI data used: /api/latest = premarket run 2026-10-30_premarket_2026-11-02T13-58-09-807Z (8:58 AM ET; regime stress, VIX9D/VIX 1.015), /api/events (asOf 2026-11-02), /api/correlations (60d, asOf 10-30), /api/scorecard, /api/regime, /api/macro (asOf 10-30), all read ~13:07 ET, all 200.
Quotes: Yahoo chart API, daily and 5-min regular-session bars, last bar 13:10 ET (Yahoo chart API). VWAP = my calc from 5-min typical price × volume. OR30 = 9:30–10:00. Unofficial, may be delayed. All replay statistics are my own calculations unless a source is cited.
Previous slots: 09:00 today (oil, PSX, TMUS/SpaceX–Boost), 10:00 today (software day 2, RBLX bounce), 11:00 today (financial fade-longs, REGN), 12:00 today (semis day 2). Friday's CMCSA/SPOT long-momentum additions were explained in the 10-30 17:00 report; SPOT's FT remix story in the 10-30 13:00 report. Tonight's PLTR/AAPL/VRTX/ON prints are not repeated here (see the 10-30 12:00 report).
1. Focus and why
- Long momentum (active): CMCSA (+4.27% on 10-30, relVol 1.56, beta60 −0.34), SPOT (+6.50%, relVol 1.84, beta60 −0.87), TMUS (+6.21%, relVol 1.70, beta60 −0.79). TRAI's bucket flags CMCSA + SPOT as "Internet/Media ×2" (
/api/latest). - Short momentum (SUSPENDED since October; watch-list only): RBLX (−18.05%, residualZ −4.28) and CAT (−3.81%) (
/api/latest; bucketstatus: suspended). - Mean reversion fade-long (active): ETN (−6.03%, z1d −2.36, relVol 1.48). It reports Tue 11-03 BMO,
gapRisk: imminent(/api/events, not estimated). - Same-sector prints this week: UBER Wed 11-04 BMO and SNAP Wed 11-04 AMC (
/api/events, not estimated). CHTR (not in the universe; CMCSA's closest read-through) reports Fri 11-06, 7:00 ET (Charter).

Read:
- All three media/telecom long-momentum names are working on day 2, above OR30 highs and VWAP. TMUS reversed a −1.4% opening gap (SpaceX–Boost headline) to +1.6%. They are outperforming SPY (+0.5%) and QQQ (+0.3%) while semis (SMH −0.4%) lag again.
- The move is group-wide, not company-specific: CHTR (+3.5%) and DIS (+2.4%) are up as much or more, and neither is a TRAI candidate. That fits the read in the 10-30 17:00 report: a low-beta/defensive rotation away from AI hardware.
- RBLX's day-2 bounce faded. It was +2.78% at the OR30 high at ~10:15 ET (10:00 report) and is +1.1% at VWAP now.
- AI power is split. GEV +2.5% while VRT is −1.4% and below its OR30 low. ETN and CAT are flat, at VWAP and inside OR30. ETN gave back a +1.07% opening gap and has not bounced from Friday's −6%.
3. Why the media/telecom names moved Friday (sourced) and what's new today
- Friday's tape: S&P 500 −1.82% to 7,580.07 and Dow −1.09% (MarketWatch, 2026-10-30). Nasdaq 100 −3.4% (worst day since mid-June), SOX −7.2% and Intel −29% after the Amazon/Intel prints (NBC News, 2026-10-30).
- CMCSA: not an earnings day. Q3 was reported Thu 10-22 BMO: adjusted EPS $1.07 vs $0.98 (LSEG), revenue $29.3B vs $29.28B, Peacock profitable for a second quarter, theme parks and connectivity under pressure, media spin-off in progress (CNBC, 2026-10-22). MarketWatch's data note says only that CMCSA rose 4.27% to $23.22 on a down day, its second straight gain (MarketWatch, above). An AI-generated Quiver note credits the Q3 beat and the NBCU/Sky separation targeted for ~mid-2027 (Quiver, 2026-10-30). It is speculative and names no Friday news. No company-specific Friday catalyst found.
- CMCSA today: WARN filings show ~1,000 layoffs (634 Philadelphia, 159 Washington, 119 New Jersey, 82 California), with separations starting 12-31. Comcast says it is also hiring for 1,100+ positions. This follows a disclosed Q4 restructuring charge of > $1B (Light Reading, 2026-11-02). It is a cost story already flagged on the Q3 call, not a new price catalyst.
- SPOT: Friday's added move came on an FT report (via Reuters, 01:55 ET 10-30) of an AI remix add-on targeted for Q1 2027 (Investing.com/Reuters, 2026-10-30; covered in the 10-30 13:00 report). Its Q3 print was 10-22 BMO (
/api/events). No SPOT news found today. - TMUS (brief, see 09:00 §5d): the Washington Post reported that SpaceX is in talks to buy EchoStar's Boost Mobile or gain access to its network. That network is leased from AT&T and T-Mobile, so a transfer could need the carriers' consent (Investing.com, 2026-11-02 06:03 ET). Benzinga's summary says SpaceX was turned down by all three carriers (Benzinga, 2026-11-02; headline/summary seen via search, article not opened). The pre-market −2.6% to −3.1% in TMUS/VZ/T has fully reversed (§2). The market is reading the report as a slow, consent-dependent threat for now. Unconfirmed by the companies.
- RBLX: Q3 detail (DAU 138M, Q4 bookings guide $1.89–2.00B vs ~$2.01B) and price targets are in the 10:00 report. No new news found.
- Today's broad tape: oil −7% on US–Iran diplomacy hopes, Dow +1.05%, consumer cyclicals leading, tech lagging. ORCL fell ~6% on a $10B stock + $10B bond financing filing (Motley Fool, 2026-11-02 11:52 ET). AI-financing worries persisting while the rest of the market rallies is consistent with the media/telecom rotation holding.
4. Peer linkages (TRAI 60d /api/correlations, asOf 10-30)
| Pair | ρ | Read |
|---|---|---|
| CMCSA–TMUS | 0.50 | same cluster 9 (CMCSA, VZ, T, TMUS; avg ρ 0.67) |
| CMCSA–SPOT | 0.52 | different clusters (9 vs 8), yet the bucket's sector flag joins them |
| SPOT–TMUS | 0.32 | not flagged together |
| SPOT–NFLX | 0.68 | cluster 8 (NFLX, SPOT, WDAY, ADBE, INTU) |
| CMCSA–DIS / CMCSA–NFLX | 0.48 / 0.43 | — |
| RBLX–SPOT | 0.05 | RBLX trades with APP (0.59), QCOM (0.58), SNAP (0.56) (cluster 12) |
| UBER top peers | ABNB 0.68, BKNG 0.63, PINS 0.55, NFLX 0.53 | BKNG reports 11-03 (10-30 15:00 report) |
- What the three LM names share is low beta, not industry: beta60 −0.34 (CMCSA), −0.79 (TMUS), −0.87 (SPOT) (
/api/latest). Pairwise ρ is 0.32–0.52, but all three moved together on Friday and again today. The sector label ("Internet/Media ×2") catches CMCSA+SPOT and misses CMCSA+TMUS. The correlation clusters catch CMCSA+TMUS and miss SPOT. Neither sees the common factor. → S-125. - This week's read-through: UBER (Wed BMO; consensus EPS ~$0.86, revenue ~$14.67B, call 8:00 AM ET per MarketBeat). TRAI last-4: avg |gap| 5.27%, fill 0%, continuation 75%. SNAP (Wed AMC; revenue estimate ~$1.73B per TradingView; call per Snap IR). TRAI last-4: avg |gap| 8.0%, fill 25% (
/api/events). SNAP–RBLX ρ 0.56 is the only meaningful link to today's candidates. Neither print falls inside today's session.
5. Typical post-move drift: my replay
(a) Defensive media/telecom names up big on a Nasdaq rout. Yahoo daily, 5 years to 10-29. Event = QQQ close-to-close ≤ −2% (87 days) and the name ≥ +3% the same day. Names: CMCSA, SPOT, TMUS, VZ, T, CHTR, NFLX, DIS.
| Sample | n | next-day gap | next-day o→c mean (median) | % up | o→c minus SPY |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All events | 23 | −0.85% | −0.33% (−0.08%) | 48% | −0.15pp |
| Ex 10-22 cluster* | 16 | — | −0.14% (+0.06%) | 50% | +0.12pp |
| Baseline: same names on all 87 next days | 87 each | — | −0.26% (CMCSA) … +0.27% (SPOT) | 43–52% | — |
\*The 10-22 → 10-23 events (7 names) ran into the SpaceX tower story the next morning, so they are a one-off.
- No day-2 edge either way. Typical day-2 o→c is roughly flat, and today's +1–2% from the open is better than average. n is small and events overlap (several names on one date), so this is not significant. It is consistent with S-005/S-100: treat these as ordinary LM entries needing confirmation, with no drift premium.
- Same-day SPOT context: on SMH ≤ −4% days in 2026 SPOT averaged +2.61% (S-049). Today SMH is only −0.4%, and SPOT is +1.0%.
(b) ETN earnings reactions. See §6.
6. ETN into Tuesday's BMO print (and CAT on day 3)
What Eaton does: electrical equipment for data-center and utility power distribution, plus Aerospace and Mobility. Mobility is being separated via a Reverse Morris Trust expected to close in Q1 2027 (Eaton Q2 release, 2026-07-31).
Timing: Tue 11-03 before the NYSE opens; call 11:00 AM ET (Eaton IR).
Company guide for Q3 (Eaton Q2 release, above):
- organic growth 13.5–15.5%
- segment margins 24.6–25.0%
- adjusted EPS $3.46–3.56
- FY26 adjusted EPS $13.40–13.60 (raised), organic growth 11–13%, segment margins 24.1–24.5%
- Q2 actuals: sales $8.5B (+21%, 14% organic); Electrical Americas 12-month rolling orders +41%; Electrical backlog +43% y/y; Electrical book-to-bill 1.2
Consensus:
- EPS $3.54 (+15.3% y/y), revenue $8.53B (MarketBeat); Zacks has $8.48B (Yahoo/Zacks)
- Segment estimates: Electrical Americas $4.00B (+17.2%), Electrical Global $2.40B (+39.1%), Aerospace $1.24B (Zacks)
- Beat EPS in 7 of the last 8 quarters (MarketBeat)
- 23 of 28 analysts rate it a buy; mean target $485.47; EPS estimates +0.56% over 60 days (Investing.com, published after the 10-30 close, exact date not shown)
- The same article flags margins and opex during capacity expansion as the swing factor.
Options: ±7.48% (±$27.65) expected move from the Nov 6 ATM straddle at 3:54 PM ET 10-30, ATM IV 67% (EarningsMoves). That is ~1.6× ETN's ATR (4.71%, /api/latest).
Why ETN fell 6.03% Friday:
- No Eaton-specific news found. MarketWatch's data note frames it only as a down-market day (−6.03% to $369.97 vs S&P −1.82%) (MarketWatch, 2026-10-30).
- An AI-generated AInvest note blames AI-capex financing fears after Meta's spending outlook (AInvest, 2026-10-30 12:15 ET, unverified analysis). It matches the semis/AI-infra rout in §3.
- Peers Friday (Yahoo): GEV −3.38%, VRT −5.46%, PWR −2.27%, HUBB −3.60%, CAT −3.81%. Investing.com says the "selloff widened as peers with similar data center exposure rallied." That contradicts these closes, so I don't use it.
- It is ETN's second −6% day in eight sessions (−6.33% on 10-22,
/api/latest10-23 run). Investing.com puts it −13.9% over one month and +17.1% YTD. - 60d ρ: GEV 0.83, ASML 0.80, ADI 0.79, ANET 0.78, VRT 0.76, CAT 0.67 (
/api/correlations), so ETN trades as part of cluster 1 (S-001).
Reaction history:
- TRAI last 4 prints:
- 2025-11-04: gap −6.71%, day-1 +4.74%
- 2026-02-03: gap −2.76%, day-1 +3.73%
- 2026-05-05: gap −5.84%, day-1 +3.29%
- 2026-07-31: gap +8.56%, day-1 −1.14%
- Summary: avg |gap| 5.97%, fill 25%, continuation 0% (
/api/events) - My replay (Yahoo daily, n 19 prints, 2022-02 → 2026-07):
- Pre-2025 reaction days are inferred as the max-volume session within ±2 days of the usual reporting date. The last four match TRAI.
- mean |gap| 3.04% (median 2.63%); 11 of 19 gaps were down; 6 of 19 had |gap| > 1 ATR.
- The day-1 open→close went against the gap 12 of 19 times.
- After down-gaps ≤ −2.5% (n 7), day-1 o→c averaged +2.47%, 6 of 7 up. The one exception was 2025-08-05 (−6.19% gap, −1.24% o→c).
- Eve-of-print session (the day TRAI would trade it as a fade-long today): mean o→c +0.26%, up 12 of 19. No meaningful edge.
- Caveats: n is small, the 2022–23 dates are inferred, and the stock's regime changed (data-center exposure grew). → S-126.
Does the print matter for today's ETN fade-long? Not for gap risk. TRAI's rules say "Flat by 3:55 PM ET — no overnight holds" (/api/latest rules), and the release comes before Tuesday's open. A same-day ETN entry carries no print-gap exposure if the rule is followed. What does matter:
- (i) Today's tape doesn't confirm the fade: ETN is +0.33%, at VWAP, inside OR30, and gave back its opening gap.
- (ii) Pre-print positioning, with the stock pinned ahead of a ±7.5% implied move.
- (iii) Tomorrow ETN will be a reaction-day name, outside TRAI's normal screen. If the replay pattern holds, a down-gap that reverses intraday is the more interesting set-up (S-126, research only).
CAT (short bucket, suspended; day 3 after its print):
- Q3 (10-29 BMO): adjusted EPS $7.20 vs $7.08 (LSEG); record backlog $78.1B (+$6B q/q, below JPMorgan's ~$80B bullish bar); FY26 revenue growth kept at mid-to-high teens vs ~18% expected; tariff-cost forecast ~$2.2B unchanged. CAT fell ~8% intraday (Reuters via StreetInsider, 2026-10-29) and closed −9.25% (Yahoo; TRAI gap −10.8%).
- Day 2 (10-30, −3.81%): Morgan Stanley cut its target to $675 from $915 (equal weight) and RBC to $722 from $897; revenue $20.68B slightly missed ~$20.76B (MarketBeat, 2026-10-30).
- Today −0.04%, at VWAP and inside OR30: the post-print selling has paused but not reversed. ETN–CAT ρ 0.67, so CAT carries ETN's read-through tomorrow (S-004). Next CAT print 2027-01-28 (
/api/events).
7. Research partner (whiggity)
Fresh whiggity chat in Monica, sent 13:18 ET (a first attempt at 13:07 went to the generic Monica bot by mistake and was discarded). Treated as a second researcher, not a source of truth.
What it returned: a fact-gatherer reply in which nearly everything came back "not found" or [UNV]. Two of its three web searches errored ("Something went wrong"), and the third returned generic pages (Eaton's homepage, the NY DOL WARN portal), not dated filings or articles. It re-tagged our own pasted figures as [UNV] because they had no external URL, and handed forward calendar dates to Catalyst Scout and test design to yoo and the Risk Auditor.
Kept / acted on:
- No ETN preannouncement or 8-K since 10-30 (whiggity, negative finding). This matches §6: nothing new turned up between Friday's close and 13:10 ET. It counts as weak confirmation only, since its searches mostly failed.
- No CMCSA/CHTR company-specific filing today beyond the WARN notice (whiggity, negative finding). This is consistent with §3's read that the move has no catalyst and looks like a rotation. whiggity explicitly flags "rotation into low-beta names" as an unverified narrative, and that's fair: it's an inference from co-movement, not something a source says.
- DST note: whiggity correctly points out that ET has been EST since Sun 11-01. All times in this report are wall-clock ET.
Rejected / not used: its claim that UBER and SNAP consensus is available only behind paid feeds. That's a search limit on its side, not a fact, and §3 doesn't depend on it.
Open questions (from whiggity's handoffs, for the 6 PM session):
- Risk Auditor: check sample size and selection bias in the defensive follow-through replay (n = 16) and the ETN down-gap recovery count (n = 7). Both are small; treat S-126 as NEEDS DATA.
- yoo: test (a) defensive-momentum follow-through after 10:00 ET following a SOX shock; (b) 2.5%+ earnings down-gaps under TRAI's 1 ATR stop / 2 ATR target / 60-minute time stop; (c) cluster caps when CMCSA, CHTR, TMUS, SPOT and DIS move together (ties to S-125).
- Catalyst Scout: confirm ETN (Tue BMO), UBER (Wed BMO), SNAP (Wed AMC) timing and CAT's next catalyst from issuer IR.
Not from whiggity: everything in §2–§6 is my own sourcing and calculation.
8. Strategy implications (proposals; the 6 PM session decides)
- S-125 (new, PROPOSAL): in stress regimes, treat long-momentum names with beta60 < 0 that move together as one "low-beta/anti-AI" cluster for the 1-per-cluster cap. Today that is CMCSA, TMUS and SPOT (pairwise ρ only 0.32–0.52). Neither the sector flag nor the 60d clusters capture it. See strategy.md.
- S-126 (new, NEEDS DATA): test a reaction-day fade-long for BMO reporters that gap down ≥ 2.5% (ETN: 6 of 7 recovered intraday, my calc, n 7). ETN tomorrow is the live case; research only, no entry rule.
- S-005 / S-100 evidence: day-2 o→c after "defensive name up ≥ 3% on a QQQ ≤ −2% day" shows no drift edge (n 16, −0.14% mean, +0.06% median). Keep normal confirmation and no drift premium. Today's names are confirming (above OR30/VWAP).
- S-106 live case: ETN is a fade-long one session before its own print; log its 15:55 result. Note that the print itself is after TRAI's flat time.
9. Open questions
- What drove CMCSA's +3.25% / +4.27% on 10-29/10-30 beyond rotation? No company news found. Was there sell-side or index/positioning flow, and is the NBCU/Sky separation timeline being re-rated? Unverified.
- Is the SpaceX–Boost talk confirmed by any company? Would AT&T/T-Mobile consent be needed, as the Post reported? Watch for EchoStar/SpaceX statements.
- ETN: the source of Investing.com's "peers rallied" claim. Is margin/opex guidance, rather than the EPS line, the bigger reaction driver? Check the 11-03 release and call (11:00 AM ET).
- CHTR (11-06) is CMCSA's cleanest read-through but isn't in TRAI's universe. Should it be added for event-awareness only?
- Confirm Snap's Q3 call time from the IR page; the page wasn't opened this hour.
