2026-11-06 16:00 ET: Financials under Friday STRESS — MR fade-longs BLK/BAC/COIN vs suspended SM JPM/V/C; payments twin V–MA; crypto-beta COIN–MSTR

Slot: Fri 2026-11-06 16:00 ET hourly research (close-hour). Status: written ~16:12–16:25 ET (EST); whiggity folded (budget exhausted after 4 rounds; KKR/BRK calendar leg primarily). Screening/research, not investment advice. No rule is implemented by this report.

Actionable for today's (Fri Nov 6) trading: NO. The live-rule entry window was 10:00 AM EST (60-minute time stop → ~11:00). Close-hour tape under STRESS (VIX still >22) with short_momentum suspended is descriptive only — not a validated fade, bounce, or SM reactivation. No same-session issuer catalyst changed Fri gap risk on a live candidate. Weekend / Mon prep remains the 11:00 gap stack (KKR BMO Mon 11-09, BRK Sat 11-07 ~7:00 a.m. CT filing → Mon reaction, plus TTD/HIMS/OXY/MARA/CEG).

1. Incremental focus (rotate from 09:00–15:00)

Prior Fri hours covered VST/MRNA/CEG (09:00, 10:00), the Mon gap stack (11:00), industrials (S-146, 12:00), staples/tobacco (S-147, 13:00), memory/storage (S-148, 14:00), and healthcare (S-149, 15:00).

This hour rotates to financials under STRESS:

  1. MR fade-longs — BLK, BAC, COIN (Financials ×3 on 8:58); MSTR software MR adjacent via crypto β.
  2. SM Financials ×3 (suspended) — JPM, V, C.
  3. Payments twin — V–MA ρ 0.95 (top pair); MA not on SM/MR lists.
  4. Broker twin — GS–MS ρ 0.92 (top pair); both in cluster-2 banks/managers.
  5. Crypto-beta cluster 8 — HOOD, MSTR, COIN, MARA, RIOT (avg ρ 0.715); COIN–MSTR ρ 0.89.

2. Live TRAI evidence and clock audit

Read-only API checks returned HTTP 200 around drafting (~16:11–16:12 ET). Linked endpoints are mutable. Sources: latest, events, correlations, regime, scorecard, macro.

Takeaway: Under Friday close SPY/QQQ green + VIX still >22, financials did not participate as one book. BLK soft green vs BAC/COIN still red; SM JPM soft vs C soft green vs V flat; V flat / MA −0.5% inside the ρ≈0.95 twin; GS/MS both soft (twin held); HOOD +3.2% diverged from COIN/MSTR soft. That is a within-financials correlation / product split — same class of error as S-146…S-149. Proposed S-150 below.

3. Correlation structure vs sector / SM flags [TRAI + S-001]

60-day clusters (/api/correlations, asOf 2026-11-05). Matrix values stored as ρ×100 → report as 0.xx:

NameTRAI sector / flag60d homeNotable pairs
JPM, BAC, C, GS, MS, BLK, KKR, BX, …Financials; SM Financials ×3 = JPM/V/CCluster 2 (avg ρ 0.585, n=11)GS–MS 0.92; BLK–JPM 0.73; BLK–KKR 0.70; JPM–BAC 0.69; JPM–C 0.69; GS–JPM 0.64
V, MAFinancials; V on SM Financials ×3Cluster 3 with SPOT/NFLX/DIS/ABT/ABNB/BKNG/UBER/DASH (avg ρ 0.58)V–MA 0.95 (top pair); V–JPM only 0.57; V–AXP 0.68

BRK-BFinancialsCluster 13 with WMT/COSTBRK–JPM 0.53; BRK–BAC 0.23 — not bank residual

Label error: SM clusterFlag "Financials ×3" groups JPM + C (cluster 2 banks) with V (cluster 3 payments/media co-cluster). MR Financials ×3 groups BLK/BAC (cluster 2) with COIN (cluster 8 crypto). Fading or chasing "financials" as one residual book under STRESS is the S-146…S-149 class of error. Proposed S-150.

4. Business facts and primary catalysts (with citations)

BLK — BlackRock (asset manager; cluster 2) — MR fade-long [S / prior V-P]

  • Business: global asset manager (ETFs, active, alts, technology/Aladdin); TRAI Financials.
  • Last primary print: Q3 released ~2026-10-14 (already digested in prior notes): revenue ~$7.8B (+19% y/y), AUM context from 10-Q summaries (The Filing Desk on 10-Q filed ~Nov 4, published Nov 5) [S on secondary summary — EDGAR primary not re-opened this hour].
  • Fri path: Yahoo close ~+0.63% after Thu −4.4% — soft bounce; no verified Fri company 8-K explaining the move this hour. Secondary tape notes (52-week high mid-day narratives, Evercore PT raise) are analyst/tape [S] — not treated as same-session catalysts (Ticker Report, 2026-11-06; TradingView/Evercore, viewed 2026-11-06).
  • Next earnings: TRAI ~2027-01-14 BMO (avg |gap| 3.83% / 1.69 ATR, fill 25%).
  • Feeds S-144 (STRESS MR fade-long) + S-150 (manager vs crypto vs payments split).

BAC — Bank of America (money-center; cluster 2) — MR fade-long [V-2 event + S commentary]

  • Business: consumer banking, GWIM, global banking, markets.
  • Thu 11-05 conference (issuer calendar): Bank of America at BancAnalysts Association of Boston Conference, Nov 5, 2026 5:00 pm ET [V-P calendar]. Secondary write-up of CFO commentary: NII growth seen 8% in 2026 and ≥8% in 2027 vs medium-term 5–7% target; ROTCE ~16% YTD ex settlement; efficiency ~61% still above 55–59% target (MarketBeat, 2026-11-05) [S — transcript PDF not opened this hour].
  • Fri path: Yahoo ~−0.70% — did not bounce with BLK; continued soft under SPY green. Conference comments are prior-session; not a Fri same-session trade catalyst.
  • Next earnings: TRAI ~2027-01-15 BMO (avg |gap| 3.30% / 1.84 ATR, fill 25%).

COIN — Coinbase (crypto exchange; cluster 8) — MR fade-long [S / crypto β]

  • Business: crypto exchange, custody, USDC; high equity β to BTC/crypto complex (see COIN.md).
  • Context: Thu BTC ETF outflows / tech-rout narrative; BTC recovered toward ~$76k Fri morning then drifted (CoinDesk, 2026-11-06) [S]. Yahoo BTC-USD last ~75,774 (daily series as of this pull). COIN Fri ~−1.51% with MSTR ~−0.29%; HOOD ~+3.21% diverged inside cluster 8.
  • Residual vs crypto β: on 8:58 run COIN had residualZ +1.68 (fade-long) despite crypto home — do not treat residual as orthogonal to BTC without a BTC regressor (Auditor open; feeds S-150 companion / S-144).
  • Next earnings: none imminent on TRAI upcoming (last print digested Oct 29 AMC); hist avg |gap| 6.66%.

JPM / C — money-center SM residuals (suspended) [prior V-P]

  • JPM: Q3 2026-10-13 already in JPM.md. Next TRAI 2027-01-14 BMO (avg |gap| only 1.31% — low-gap name). Fri ~−0.84%. No near-term company print.
  • C: turnaround / Q3 narrative in secondary press (Investing.com, 2026-11-06) [S]. Fri ~+0.51%. Next TRAI 2027-01-14 BMO.
  • Both sit in cluster 2 with BAC/GS/MS/BLK — unlike V.

V / MA — payments twin [prior + ρ gate]

  • V on SM Financials ×3; MA not on SM/MR. Correlation home is cluster 3 (with media/travel), not cluster 2 banks. V–MA ρ 0.95.
  • Fri: V ~flat, MA ~−0.50% — twin mostly held directionally soft/flat while banks mixed. Next: V ~2027-01-26 AMC; MA ~2027-01-28 BMO.
  • ρ gate proposal: do not size V residual with JPM/C solely because SM flag says Financials ×3 — require payments-twin / cluster-3 framing (S-150).

GS / MS — broker twin (context; not on today's SM/MR lists)

  • GS–MS ρ 0.92; both cluster 2. Fri both soft (−0.38% / −0.58%) — twin held. Next GS ~01-19, MS ~01-14.

Weekend / Mon calendar (confirm — also in 11:00 / S-145)

  • BRK-B: issuer PDF — Q3 + 10-Q posted Sat 2026-11-07 ~7:00 a.m. Central (Berkshire nov0426.pdf, 2026-11-04) [V-P]. TRAI lists date 11-07 with sessionsToReaction 1 (Mon open reaction). Hist avg |gap| only 0.72%. Not Fri AMC.
  • KKR: Q3 Mon 2026-11-09 BMO; call 10:00 ET (Business Wire, 2026-09-29) [V-P]. BMO Financials Conference Tue 11-10 8:00 ET (Nasdaq/BW, 2026-10-21) [V-P]. TRAI avg |gap| 2.31%, fill 100%. ρ BLK–KKR 0.70, BX–KKR historically tight — Mon peer gap-risk for alt-manager sleeve (already S-145 context; do not re-litigate).

Aggregate philosophy unchanged: big |gap| continuation ~50%; do not add drift premium (S-005). SM remains suspended (S-141). No same-day fade claim on soft afternoon paths (S-006 N/A — no huge Fri financials gap).

6. Why "Financials ×3" is not one residual book [S-001 / S-014]

  1. Different correlation homes: JPM/C/BAC/BLK in cluster 2; V (and MA) in cluster 3 with media/travel; COIN in cluster 8 crypto.
  2. Pair gates: V–MA 0.95 and GS–MS 0.92 are tighter than JPM–V (0.57) or COIN–BAC (0.08).
  3. Tape: Fri close — BLK bounce vs BAC/COIN soft; V flat vs MA soft; HOOD bounce vs COIN/MSTR soft; XLF −0.57% vs SPY +0.32%.
  4. Policy: SM Financials ×3 remains suspended; afternoon paths are not reactivation evidence.

7. Whiggity consult

Consult: present at /workspace/trai-consults/2026-11-06-1600-whiggity.md (also /workspace/trai-hourly-1600-whiggity.md), written ~16:15 ET. Whiggity reported tool budget exhausted after 4 rounds; KKR/BRK calendar leg primarily (BLK/BAC/JPM/V/C/MSTR issuer news [UNV] by whiggity). Folded below: keep only points we independently verify; rest stay open / [UNV]. Still Actionable Fri NO.

Secondary / open (whiggity-attributed)

  • F4 KKR IR delayed quote: [S-1] vendor widget; we use Yahoo universe prices for KKR context only (not a candidate this hour).
  • F8–F10 COIN vendor pages: [S-1]/[UNV]; F10 internal range inconsistency noted by whiggity — reject as price source; we use Yahoo chart API.
  • F11 KKR consensus EPS ~$1.55 (Public.com): [S-1] — optional; Yahoo/Zacks-style estimates also circulate ~$1.58 (Yahoo markets article) [S] — do not treat as issuer guide.
  • Auditor handoffs (keep as open questions): (a) Financials MR hit rate VIX>22 vs ≤22; (b) KKR Mon BMO + BRK Sat contamination of Mon 10:00 entries in alt-manager sleeve; (c) whether COIN "residual" includes a BTC regressor / weekend BTC look-ahead into Mon; (d) V–MA / GS–MS ρ horizon vs entry signal horizon.
  • BLK/BAC/JPM/V/C/MSTR issuer news Fri: whiggity [UNV] (budget); we independently covered BAC Boston calendar + MarketBeat NII [S], BLK secondary tape [S], no Fri 8-K found for the SM trio.

Rejected

  • Using coinbase.com stock widget (F10) as a price/range source given internal inconsistency.
  • Treating BRK "Predicted" buyback articles dated Sat 11-07 as verified before the Sat release (forward/AI pieces exist in search — not cited as facts here).

8. Strategy proposals (for 6 PM refinement — not live)

S-150: Split TRAI "Financials" SM/MR risk into cluster-2 banks/managers vs V–MA payments twin vs cluster-8 crypto-beta · PROPOSAL (extends S-001 / S-014 / S-146 / S-147 / S-148 / S-149)

  • Rule (proposal): when clusterFlag or sector label is Financials, do not count cluster-2 banks/brokers/managers (JPM/BAC/C/GS/MS/BLK/KKR/BX/…), V–MA payments twin (ρ≥~0.9; currently cluster 3 with media/travel), and cluster-8 crypto-beta (COIN/MSTR/HOOD/MARA/RIOT) as one correlated residual book. Cap exposure using 60d correlation clusters; optional hand map: money-center/broker core (cluster 2), payments twin (V–MA ρ gate), crypto-beta (cluster 8), BRK conglomerate (cluster 13 — separate Sat filing calendar).
  • Companion tests: (1) after a STRESS-day financials SM/MR crush under VIX>22, measure next-session cluster-2 mean vs V/MA vs COIN/MSTR/HOOD return spreads; (2) payments ρ gate — require V–MA co-move (or MA confirmation) before sizing a V residual as "financials"; same for GS–MS inside brokers; (3) COIN residual vs crypto β — hit rate of COIN MR fade-long when residualZ>1 but BTC 1d <0 / ETF outflow day (hypothesis: residual alone insufficient); (4) Mon contamination from BRK Sat + KKR BMO on cluster-2 alt-manager names (look-ahead / event contamination — Auditor). Costs, day clustering, OOS, multiple-testing caution.
  • Why (live case): Fri 2026-11-06 close — BLK ~+0.6% vs BAC −0.7% / COIN −1.5%; V flat vs MA −0.5%; HOOD +3.2% vs COIN/MSTR soft; SM still tags Financials ×3 as JPM+V+C across two correlation homes.
  • Evidence: this report §2–6, §8.

Evidence adds

  • S-001 / S-014: Financials sector / Financials ×3 flag over-aggregates; close path splits cluster-2 vs payments twin vs crypto cluster-8.
  • S-144: BLK/BAC/COIN remain on MR fade-long list under STRESS + inversion (close VIX9D/VIX ~1.08); paths mixed (BLK bounce, BAC/COIN soft) — descriptive only after 10:00 — NEEDS DATA unchanged. Close VIX ~25.6 still >22.
  • S-141 / SM policy: do not reactivate short momentum on Financials ×3 after Fri mixed paths.
  • S-145: KKR Mon BMO + BRK Sat filing unchanged — not re-litigated; Mon gap stack still governs weekend prep.
  • S-012 / residual-reversion: COIN residualZ +1.68 with crypto home + Fri BTC soft — caution that residual ≠ BTC-orthogonal (feeds S-150 companion 3).
  • S-005: no LM claim; LM bucket empty.

9. Open questions

  1. Quantitative share of Thu’s financials crush explained by SPY −4.4% / vol vs idiosyncratic residual (event study not done here). Whiggity BLK/JPM/V/C issuer leg [UNV] / budget-cut.
  2. Whether SM Financials ×3 should drop V when correlations place it in cluster 3 with MA (engine/display issue for S-150).
  3. Persistence of HOOD vs COIN/MSTR divergence into Mon (MARA AMC same night — crypto sleeve crowded).
  4. Auditor: COIN residual construction — BTC regressor? overnight-inclusive returns given weekend BTC?
  5. Auditor: V–MA / GS–MS ρ horizon (daily vs 5m) vs entry signal horizon.
  6. BLS Employment Situation Fri 11-06 / CPI / Fed speakers / Veterans Day Wed 11-11 bond status — whiggity Scout handoff; not verified this hour.
